Mission Post - Shuttle Bay, Day 13 [open/ unfinished]

Sep 23, 2009 19:44

It was a bumpy ride -- of course, because no one sane ever made a shuttle craft with a smooth ride -- all the way up, outside and in. After surviving a hostile abduction, the bizarre bastard child of a political intrigue and a ceremonial sacrifice, they'd escaped. Only to maybe be done in by killer sex spores ( Read more... )

It had taken him some time, but he responded to Admiral Pike's hailing frequency, finally, what seemed like hours later.

As far as Commander Spock went, Kirk would have the Vulcan respond as soon as he could -- making certain that the bridge was fully taken care of, and immediately requesting that his first officer join him once everything else was handled. Kirk didn't think to wonder what he looked like -- sure, he had changed back into command gold and looked a might bit like his old self, but he had been pretty sure that when he'd gone back to his quarters that Lady Boudicca had made a damn right mess of his hair.

So, he looked mildly debauched, weary, and tired of dodging sexual advances made by the few of his crew members that had been affected. A security officer from his last away mission had asked him to check something in his quarters, later -- in that easy, smarmy smile.

Dammit, all.

He set up the communications device in order to answer the call, sitting back in his chair with a silent sort of annoyance. "Admiral Pike, this is James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise."

"I have it under control, Admiral." He responded wearily, running a hand through his hair. "Commander Spock will contact you with the details of our mission shortly. It has been succesful in some ways, but I fear that we'e having our own difficulties as a result."

He shifted in his seat. "Are you aware of the Bacchanalian Spores?"

"We've got the problem restrained to one section of the ship." He took a deep breath. "However, many of our officers are affected, as well as Lady Boudicca herself." He paused.

"I'm not sure how I'm supposed to have a diplomatic discussion with a woman that keeps trying to get my pants off." He glanced back to the Admiral, and chuckled absently. "It's....controlled chaos, I guess you could say. That's still a form of control though, isn' it?"

Spock had went to the bridge to make sure that very thing up there was under control before heading into the conference with the Captain and Admiral Pike. Just before he went inside the room to see what was needed of him he stopped, took a deep breath and worked the memories of Leonard McCoy out of his head. Once he had himself calmed and controlled or at least as best he could Spock stepped into the room still in the clothes he’d gotten from decon. He hadn’t felt the need to change back into his Science Blues; it would only waist time and that would be illogical.

“Captain Kirk,” he nodded at his Captain as he stepped up beside him. “Admiral Pike,” as normal the Vulcan stood tall and straight next to Jim with his eyes locked on Pike.

Thankfully, Spock entered just as Kirk started to speak. Kirk looked back at him, a brief flash of relief coming across his features. At the very least, Spock hadn't been affected, right? Kirk grinned wide, flashing teeth at the Vulcan when he sat down next to him, his gaze returning to the Admiral.

"I don't want to call in for reinforcements just yet, Sir. As I said, we've got the issue detained to one area of the ship." He nodded. "I'm sure we'll be able to handle this in the next couple of days, Admiral."

After receving the bad news from Creed, there really wasn't anything for it. Jim was on the Bridge now, back in full captain mode. Leonard had to appraise him of the situation.

"McCoy to Bridge, Kirk do you read me? We've gotta extra helping of emergency here! Quarantine in Sickbay has just been compromised. I'm en route but I dunno if I can reestablish. At least two officers are infected. I'll letcha know more when I get a handle on things. McCoy out."

The comm on both ends fell into a small, dead silence.

Frustration was apparent on Kirk's face as McCoy communicated their situation, his eyes down to the speaker coming from the chair, and back up to the distinguished Admiral on the screen.

Dammit. First mission and he already needed reinforcements. He didn't have a good track record already. "Sir, I'll have a handle on i-" Before he could finish, Pike had turned the comm off, and Kirk looked down at the offending source of the comunication from Bones.

"Bones," He messaged again. "I feel I should warn you that Admiral Pike will be arriving within 48 hours with medical reinforcement as well as security."

He almost didn't hear the Medbay comm going off over the noise of the malfunctioning biobed. But when he did, he disengaged himself from Cassie to dart over to answer.

"What? Jim, speak a li'l louder, sounded like ya said Pike was comin' over." Which would just be freakish. Why would Pike take interest in their first mission? He'd hand-picked Jim himself fo--

... Oh.

.... Oh. Shit.

"... We're fucked, aren't we?" he sighed into the comm. Not like protocol really mattered at this point.

"To say the least." Kirk grumbled, and glanced down. "Look, Bones. I don't know what these spores can do. All I know is that we better get a damn well good hold over the contamination before Admiral Pike arrives." Kirk wasn't normally this worried over what anyone else thought of him. Admiral Pike, however, was a different story.

"For...some reason it hasn't affected me yet. I don't know how, or why, but it hasn't affected Spock yet either. And you look pretty good yourself."

Kirk took a deep breath. "We need to get this controlled, somehow."

"Yeah," Bones stretched out the one word into several different meanings. I understand, I feel it too, ...I'm sorry. "I'm workin' on it now. This thing is like a hybrid. Part aphrodisiac, part allergen. Almost part virus." He thought about what he'd just said, and the data he'd collected from Cassie and before the mission.

"I'm not affected because me an' the mask have been friends. Spock... well, he claims Vulcan immunity," Bones snorted, having not engaged the view screen. God knows what the Bridge would get a peep of right now. He sure didn't want to turn and look. More shrewdly, "As fer you... you were covered in that shit an' should have been patient zero. Ya know, yer also likely the one person on this ship that's had the most anti-histamines and steroids hypo'ed into them. That might be counteracting their ability ta get a foothold. I'll look inta that more once I can get inta the labs." Because quarantine procedure also meant automatic isolation protocols to protect specimen samples.

"I know, Jim. I'll give ya mah all. McCoy out.
