MISSION POST: Shi Maro Space Station - Day 47 - OPEN

Aug 25, 2010 00:55

The air was one of breathless anticipation as all off duty personnel - military and civilian, Aian and Marosi - lined the viewports to watch the Starfleet ship come in to dock. Murmurs raced through the watching crowd at her strange design, at the unfamiliar words emblazoned across her hull ( Read more... )

Daniela didn't really understand why she had to be present for this thing. It wasn't like she was anyone important that anyone would want to meet. But it had been strongly suggested that she put in an appearance, so that's what she was doing. She'd hang in the back, near the exit for about five minutes, then sneak out and back to the ship. If anyone questioned her, she'd say she wasn't feeling well and needed to go back to her quarters. If someone from medical intervened, well... she'd rather spend a night in the med bay instead of at a party where she was expected to socialize with people.

Moving to lean against the wall near the doors, she watched everyone else socializing as she counted down five minutes.

Excited for the evening, Christine entered the banquet area first, taking in the room itself before looking among her colleagues. Knowing her friends, there would be a few she'd have to peel off the wall, or at least join over there for a while. Two people immediately caught her attention: Donnie and Daniela. Her little introvert D's, it would appear.

A moment's deliberation decided the Yeoman was most likely to bolt first, so she doubled back to the door and approaced Daniela. "Hey, sweetie," she said said, smile bright as she stepped beside her. "How are you?"

She smiled when she saw Christine, then remembering the excuse she'd made for herself, let it fade away.

"Oh, hi. Um, I dunno. Feeling a little... off. So I might head back to the ship early." She didn't want to make up some illness that Christine could easily treat, nor did she want her friend to worry about her, so she decided to be as vague as possible. Though Christine was such good company, Daniela was questioning whether she wanted to bail so quickly. As long as she could talk to her friend, there was no reason to rush off, was there?

None whatsoever. Which might have been Christine's plan all along, sneaky little thing that she was.

"Okay," she said with an understanding nod, reaching out to give Daniela's shoulder a squeeze. "Anything I can help with?"

"Oh no. I think... maybe I'm hungry? Should we maybe go get something to eat?" She hadn't planned to eat, because it would have been rude to grab food and go, but if she was staying, she figured she might as well eat. It would also help with the excuse she'd made. After eating, she could say she was feeling better.

"Yeah, let's." Christine smiled a little brither and linked her arm with Daniela's, starting to lead the way over to the spot most of the refreshments seemed to be.

Feeling a bit more at ease, as long as Christine didn't leave her side, of course, Dani followed, taking a good look at the table in front of which they stopped.

"Oh, look at those little cracker things. What do you think they're topped with? Kinda looks like... cream cheese and... what is that? Meat?"

Christine wrinkled her nose, keeping close to Daniela even as she leaned forward to look. "Reminds me of bacon," she said with a sigh. "Gotta love how many planets still fail at catering to vegetarians."

Dani wrinkled her nose too. She wasn't going to trust some type of alien meat until someone told her it was safe for humans, and what it tasted like as well.

"I'm sure they have something out that doesn't have meat in it. Let's keep looking."

Laughing more at Daniela's expression than anything, Christine gave her a little tug to the drink table. "Punch is a good place to start, don't you think?"

She followed, nodding eagerly. "Sure is! I just hope it's sweet and, you know, not spiked." Picking up a ladle and cup, she asked, "Want some?"

"Don't mind if I do," she said politely, giving a grin. Daniela seemed to be a bit better off, at least, even if Christine still intended on keeping an eye on her for a while.

"Okey dokey..." She poured out a glass for Christine and carefully handed it over, then filled one for herself. And if she took her time doing that so Christine would have to take the first sip to test it, well Daniela wasn't going to admit it.

Christine liked to think that no one would be stupid enough to do anything to a drink they'd be serving to Starfleet officers, including a handful of medical personnel. But that didn't mean she wasn't going to sneak out her recalibrated scanner. It was a prototype that had it duplicating tricorder functions, but she liked the size of her scanner so much more...

Once she was certain there weren't any typical toxins or alcohol in the drink, she took a sip and stuck the small cylindrical scanner back in her pocket. "Mmm, it's tasty," she said with a wink at Daniela.

Daniela watched with interest, giggling when Christine winked at her. She too took a sip, and nodded her agreement. "It is good. Well, we have a winner with the punch. I wonder what else we can find."

"There's got to be fruit of some sort around her somewhere," Christine commented, taking another sip as she looked around. "And no telling about the paranoid scanning, alright? I have enough to worry about without me getting sick."
