He hadn't intentionally put off getting his updated physical on the enterprise. And if he had a subconscious aversion to having a physical he was, obviously, unaware of it. But it had continued to slip his mind. David should have no qualms about any sort of doctor's visit. He'd probably had more doctor's visits and physicals than many on the ship. But perhaps there was an unknown trepidation about having one for the first time without his usual doctor around.
His doctor in California was called Dr. David Joy. He'd pretty much known David for his entire life. Dr. Joy had started off as a young physician who had majored in xenobiology looking to make life easier for transient lifeforms from other planets and humans that had been raised on other planets and had decided to continue their life on earth. Dr. Joy knew everything about David and the psychologist was never in doubt that if he were in any sort of medical trouble that Joy would be there to help.
Now he felt like he'd be starting over on the Enterprise. His doctor kept an extensive file that was available to any of the medical staff, but he still missed Dr. Joy. It was a comfort, he knew. He didn't know what to expect when he entered sickbay now. But he knew that the doctors and nurses here were competent and used to working on other lifeforms.
So he pushed all worries aside and took a break from his paperwork to peek in medical and see if he couldn't get that pesky physical over with.
"Just walk in," said the nurse at the front desk, a bit apathetic. "Everyone else does. You're here for a physical so it shouldn't be too hard to find someone."
