Space Station - Day 28 (Late Afternoon) - (Open)

Dec 01, 2009 19:44

It was a good day to be off the ship. There hadn't been any more drinking contests that Tonia had been privy to and the shops were open for anyone to come explore. And exploring was exactly what the Yeoman had in mind. So far the variety of shops looked welcoming ranging from clothing, electronics, books, down to food stalls. Anything a person ( Read more... )

Absolutely too long of a straight streak of being professional and not very much fun at all made it absolutely imperative, in Christine's opinion, that she had fun on her afternoon outing with Tonia. If that involved wearing denim jeans for the first time in months and using sneak hug attacks as a form of greeting, so be it.

She deserved a little fun every once in a while.

And Tonia deserved the sneak hug attack.

With the spoon halfway up to her mouth she was just about to stuff some more ice cream dots in to her mouth when Christine decided to do her sneak attack. Tonia squeaked loud and long, flailing to keep hold of the cup and losing what had been on her spoon to the floor. Turning around quickly to tell off the person who had scared her she quickly found herself face to face with Chapel.

"Nugh! Don't do that! You almost made me drop my ice cream!"

"Sorry, couldn't resist." Laughing, Christine stepped back to give the other woman a bit of personal space. Though the jumping and squeaking was always entertaining. Tonia was perfectly mature when she needed to be, but, like most of the crew, there were moments when their ages showed. Like now.

"And where's my ice cream?" She gave an exaggerated pout.

"I didn't know what you would want!" There were a few hundred choices all in little dot forms. Tonia had settled for a sampler cup and a rather decent sized one. "You want the rest of mine?"

And yes they all could act mature when they wanted and needed to be. This was a girls day out. That required them to be not so mature, a chance to gossip, shop, and get back to the basics that didn't revolve around Starfleet. "The blue ones are the best. I think it's, like, blueberry or something. Maybe a punch like drink too."

"Ooo, of course I do," Christine replied with genuine glee but playful lack of gratitude, grabbing first the spoon, then the cup from her friend's hands. Winking, she added, "Thanks," before popping a spoonful of the tiny, colorful dots into her mouth. They were, most assuredly, every bit as delicious as they looked.

"Mmmm. So -" She loaded up her commandeered spoon again and looked around, taking in her surroundings. " - where do we start?"

Well she didn't exactly say she was done with them yet! Thus the look of WHAT?! that crossed her face for a moment before she rolled her eyes. With a light laugh she waved her little bag in front of Chris near refusing to show the woman what she had gotten at the outlet while she was waiting. Take that for taking her ice cream, damnit!

"I got a list of things I need to look for for myself, for some of my other friends, and for Leonard." Don't ask about the last one. It was a joke between the two but she was going to try to fill it anyway. That is, of course, if she could. She might just end up getting him something nice for his office in the end.

Ah. So the ice cream wasn't being offered at that exact moment. Oh, well. She could buy Tonia a cookie or something later.

Christine raised her eyebrows as she helped herself to another spoonful of dots. "A list? Not even I have a list. You really are the perfect Yeoman," she teased, elbowing her friend gently in the side. "There are a few people home I'd like to pick up things for, though, and if I can find a nice pair of earrings, I don't think I'll be able to resist."

She paused thoughtfully to have another spoonful, then asked, "And what in the 'Verse could you possibly be picking up for Leonard?"

"Yeah I got to get my nieces and nephews something while I'm here. Their birthdays are coming up.. or I could make them Christmas presents. Either way I have to shop for a 9, 8, 6, 5, and 2 year old." She loved her brother's children to death even if one of her brothers she didn't. When Chris gently elbowed her the woman couldn't help but laugh. "Hon, if I didn't, I'd forget what I was needed for the other people. For myself? I just do what I want when I want." Speaking of earrings... Pulling the box out of the little bag she showed off a set of earrings that she got to wear when not on shift.

"Well.. it started off as a joke.. but I figure I'd try to do something nice for him. For being so welcoming in medical and all." No she was not mentioning what the joke centered around underwear or the sort.

"Shiny!" seemed like the best reaction to Tonia's new earrings, exclaimed between munching. They were shiny, after all.

The best reaction to Tonia's explanation concerning the CMO, though, seemed to be suspicion. Christine hadn't thought there were a lot of jokes in Sickbay she'd missed, though this seemed to be one that was both recent and significant. She'd have to complain later about that - next shift, maybe, if Leonard was in a decent enough mood to stand for teasing. Suspicion was too potentially dark, though, so she switched it out for loving exploitation of a weakness. "He did warm up to you awfully fast," she observed, deliberately grinning wickedly. "You must be his new favourite woman around Sickbay."

"Oh psssh." With a deepening blush, Tonia was quick to replace the earrings back in the bag before shifting a little on her feet. "He probably does that with everyone." So not getting her goat about having a crush on the CMO, Christine! Not today!.. which was a lie. It was probably going to happen throughout the day now at this rate. "Besides he has to be. I'm the paper pusher so you two don't have to worry about it."

So there. Have the hinted to tongue sticking out at you, Chris.

"Where do you want to hit first?"

"There was a twentieth century cliche that all business men slept with their secretaries." She slid the spoon into her mouth. God, this was good ice cream. "That was your random tidbit for the day."

The random tidbit with a second meaning seriously lacking in subtlety. Not that she really wanted any sort of rampant affairs going on in Sickbay - let alone between these two - but, really, dangling what she'd inferred from Tonia's reactions to Leonard over the woman's head was really much too easy.

"An electronics store, maybe? See if I can't find any neat little gadgets to pick up for my dad."

Tonia sputtered to try to think of a reply. Really! The woman was encouragable! Not to mention down right mean some times. "Christine Chapel! I doubt I'm even his type let alone someone he'd want to do the horizontal limbo with." She was half tempted to poke the woman while she was taking a bite just to make her splutter and drop some too. After that comment she deserved it.

"Fine. Electronics. But you have to wolf the rest of that down or they won't let you in."

"He's a man, Ton, and a Southern one at that. Just turn on the charm and the cooking and you're automatically his type." But, oh, she could behave for a little while, she supposed. If she had to.

Smiling innocently, Christine held the cup out to Tonia. There was still a bit left. "Alright. Help me finish?"

With an exasperated sigh the yeoman rolled her eyes. Just because he was a man didn't mean he'd fall for the likes of her. Tonia knew this and accepted it. So. There! When she finally looked back to Chris, Tonia let a wry smile cross her face. "And if you say a damned thing to him I will hunt you down and hurt you. I know where you live and work. Don't forget that."

Looking back at the ice cream she couldn't help but giggle as she moved to snatch the spoon away from her friend. "I think I can manage that."

Laughing at the restollen ice cream, Christine said, "I'll say what I damn well please, and you know it. Besides, you're too scared of hyposprays to try anything with me."

Hands free again now, she looped one arm through Tonia's elbow and stepped close to the Yeoman, starting to tug her in the opposite direction from which she'd arrived. Logically, that's where she was going to find anything she hadn't found already. "Allons-y!"

"Chris.. please... don't say anything to him."

For once there was a nervous tone in her usual chipper voice as she was dragged off toward the shops. "He's probably already taken and I don't want to set myself up for a heartbreak or anything. Okay?" Finishing off the ice cream save for the last bite she offered it back to her friend as they got closer to the electronics store. "Besides I sort of like working in medical."
