The shore leave they'd been given was, unfortunately, a working shore leave. But that didn't mean they didn't have time for a little fun inbetweentimes. The last phase of the repairs was scheduled to start in the morning, as was the crisis training...by his reckoning, that left a good twelve hours yet which could be happily spent in alcoholic ( Read more... )

The bar!

As was traditional on shore leave, the first place he ended up, either on a planet or a station, was the bar. Bars gave you a sense of the locals, and usually had the best unpretentious local food. Pub fare, was generally good o mater where you were in the galaxy.

It felt good to be out of his goon suit and back in his native(and far more his style) ripped up jeans and a t-shirt.

He plopped his ass on the bar stool and signaled the bartender as he lit up a cigarette. "Give me what ever's strong, good, and local."

Ah, now there was a familar face. "Alright Tony? How's it goin', man?" he slid into the next barstool over, drink in hand. "I'm likin' the look."

"Thanks, it's all the rage in Paris," he said dryly as the bartender put a lowball glass full something neon orange and highly alcoholic smelling.

"Do I even want to know what this is?" The bartender just smirked and walked away. Tony shrugged and looked back at Scotty, "It's going good, getting trashed, wanna join me?"

"Now there's a plan I can get behind," he replied, tossing back a fair amount of his own drink. "'m painfully sober right now."

Cassie came and sat down beside them, her drink in hand.

"Hey there guys. Mind if I join you?" she said as she sat on the bar stool on the other side of Tony.

Looking at his drink she said. "Wow thats a lovely colour. What's it taste like?"

Tony took a sip of the drink with a look of concentration. "Well kind of like the way hot metal smells."

He glared at the cup, "Or maybe, Right! Have you ever had chemical burns? It tastes the way those feel."

He took another gulp of the drink. "I like it."

"Huh," Scotty said, looking curiously at the drink. After all, he had a wide experience of both hot metal and burns of all varieties. "Mind if I have a taste?"

"Yeah, sure," he handed it to Scotty, "Tastes like it's straight up, I don't even want to know what it's made of."

He sniffed the drink speculatively and took a gulp. Paused, considering, and swallowed. "Bloody hell," he said a little hoarsely, and coughed. "Either I'm imagining things, or there's transmission fluid in that."

Cassie sat there and laughed. " Rather you than me lads. Mind you I have no idea what's in this one other than the bit of Wild Turkey that I added earlier. BUT as far as I can tell, there are no transmission like fluids in it."

Tony just snorted, "Some of the best shit tastes like lighter fluid, or transmission fluid, and I'm not just talking about bathtub gin either."

He finished the glass full of whatever it was and waved at the bartender, "I'll have another, hasn't killed me yet whatever it is."

"Mmm!" Scotty said, hastily swallowing what was in his mouth, "That reminds me. Tony, we should see about getting our hands on a grain mash while we're here."

Cassie sat there and said, "I'm not listening and that reminds me I want to try to find a real coffee maching while I'm here."

She didn't really think they would care even if she was but hey ho. She took another mouthful of stuff.

"Ehh, good luck with that, you'd have better luck getting diamonds to come out of my ass." he said off offhandedly.

"The issue with the grain mash," he said to Scotty, pointing at him with the glass. "Is that most of my grain comes to me as flour. We'll have to come up with a good reason to get whole grains."

"Aye, that is a problem," Scotty said, tapping his glass thoughtfully off his jaw. "Surely there's somethin' grain could be used for? Or we could always see about pickin' it up off the books...I know a guy who knows a guy, if you take my meaning."

Cassie looked at Tony and said, "Well some of us prefer coffee to what your thinking on doing. And I'm sure that I will find a coffee maker. Just like you will get hold of your grain right?"

she smiled at him as she drank some more. Somehow she felt that she would have to listen to them going on about their scheme but it was better than sitting alone.
