Sickbay - Day 22 - Semi-Open/Unfinished

Nov 13, 2009 19:04

It was funny how she could tidy this drawer and that storage unit and that stack of PADDs every single day and every single day, she had to do it again. Well, maybe not funny. Odd or annoying or just the way a starship's medical bay is supposed to work, but not necessarily funny ( Read more... )

She wasn't going to lie - it was damned annoying to need another physical so soon after the last one. But orders were orders, and everyone who'd been Spored needed checked over again. Unfortunately. Walking into sickbay, she was pleased to see it near empty. Their medical staff had been run off their feet for far too long with everything that had been going on lately.

And there was the person she wanted to talk to. "Nurse Chapel. Just the lady I was looking for. I'm told I'm scheduled for a physical

Ah, yes, this was a definite improvement over acting like she ran a child care centre filled with children who didn't know how to put their things away. Who cares if she didn't remember having been told to expect any physicals today? Communication got redundant on a ship of this size.

"Commander Creed," Christine greeted brightly, coming to stand opposite the Chief of Security. "Any preference as to who performs the physical? I'm afraid Doctor McCoy's not available at the moment, but I am."

Creed shrugged. She didn't particularly care who did her physical as long as it got done. There was a lot of work to be done over the coming fortnight, hand-to-hand training and emergency drills, and she needed cleared for duty again as fast as possible.

"I don't mind. If you're free, that's fine."

Christine gave a nod. "Sounds good. I'll put you right over here." Indicating one of the biobeds for Creed to go to, she aimed herself at the closet that kept the medical clothing. Within a few moments she was handing the pants and shirt to Creed and pulling the curtain shut around the area.

"If you'll change into this, please, I'll go get your file and be right back."

"Sure," Creed acknowledged, heading over to the biobed Chapel had indicated. She changed quickly and piled her own clothes neatly at the foot of the 'bed, leaning back against it. A highly inappropriate grin fought for freedom as she recalled the last time she'd been in close proximity to a biobed. The last time she'd been in medbay had been kind of fun too.

Rousseau just happened to be sitting at the desk doing paperwork on annual exams, happy to start getting things back to normal. It didn't really feel like much had happened -- she was humming happily in the corner of the room, tapping away quickly on a PADD, glancing up when someone entered the room.

She had already had her physical -- but she, for some reason, hadn't quite expected Ms. Creed to come when she just happened to be on-duty. Rousseau busied herself, looking down at her PADD, trying not glance up at Head Nurse Chapel and Commander Creed -- or at least, trying not to get caught doing so.

Instead, she thumbed through some personnel files until she found Creed, Lynn, and handed it over to Chapel with a beaming smile. "Here you are, ma petite."

It was a relief to know not everyone in Sickbay was entirely useless. "Thank you, ma chère," Christine told Rousseau with a smile, using up most of the French she'd retained from youth in the process.

File in hand, she made her way back to where she'd set up Creed. "Can I come in?" she asked, ready to open the curtain again.

"Go ahead," Creed replied. It was pleasantly warm in sickbay, a relief when one had to sit around in flimsy medical clothing. She stretched lazily. "Come on in."

Leaving the curtain half-open behind her, Christine entered. Creed looked... comfortable, which was a rarity in this place, where most people were distinctly edgy. "Comfy?" she asked, laughing a little as she pulled her scanner out of her pocket. "And is there anything out of the ordinary I should know about before we begin?"

"Very," Creed replied, grinning. She hadn't gotten over the novelty of proper medical facilities enough for them to make her nervous like they did so many others.

She paused thoughtfully. "Don't be alarmed by the scars," she said eventually. With the advanced medical technology available to Starfleet, the old remnants of vicious scarring on her chest, stomach, and thighs was extremely unusual.

At the scar comment, Christine gave a tight-lipped nod, and looked down at her PADD. The woman in charge of Security was another one of those people whose medical file she tried to know off by heart. Creed's was disconcerting, to say the least, mostly thanks to her last employment. It was doubtful any medical treatment she'd received would be up to any sort of real standards.

"I'd tell you to lie still and relax for this portion," she said, looking from the display on the wall to the figures she was adding to the file, "But you've already got that covered."

"I could try to relax more if you like," Creed offered with a swift smile. In the meantime she got on with the 'lying still' part of the proceedings.

"If you relax any more, you'll be turning this into naptime," Christine teased. Vitals were all good. Nothing out of the ordinary for the patient: just what she liked to hear.

"Would that really be a bad thing?" Creed asked, affecting innocence. Come to that, it wasn't entirely a joke. They'd all been run off their feet lately. A bit of shuteye could only be a good thing.

"Not unless you had anywhere to be, ma'am." While usually anyone sleeping in Sickbay was either really sick or there under threat of force from the CMO, Christine never claimed it to be a place of utter alertness. "But let's get the physical over with first, yeah?"

That looked like an okay time to interject.

"Christine, if I may have a brief second of your time, I was only wondering if you could sign this for me?" She interrupted, curious to see what was going on behind the curtains. Her eyes met with Creed's just briefly, a small little smile crossing her lips before she produced the PADD she needed the head nurse's signature on.
