Mornings weren't something that Schuyler liked, even if they weren't true mornings. On a ship there was no sun rising and falling, but there was simulated day and night and unfortunately Schuyler found she still disliked mornings even when they were simulated ( Read more... )

The snorting was loud this time. "Oh, you don't stop do ya, Sly Sky?" If it'd been Jim -- and it often was, quite a lot, with obnoxious determination -- Leonard would have been growling warnings about staying out of his personal affairs. But Sly was different. He wasn't exactly sure why. Probably because she was a lady, and Leonard had no real defense against them. "If my bed gets cold, I just ask the computer to turn the heat up."

He waited for the indignant rant with a shit-eating smirk.

Once they both had settled down, he grinned honestly again. "Thankfully, not many are like our illustrious and esteemed captain. We wouldn't get through the first year of this assignment. I think it's good that you have standards, Sky. A woman with tastes is a fine thing." For a brief moment, Leonard kinda did pull on some of that old charm. He locked hazel eyes on her pretty Sky eyes as he told her this. He wanted her to know that she was desirable and any man who thought otherwise was a fool.

He then looked down to toy with his mug, flirt with having another drink. "My lookin' time is spent lookin' after whelps who can't take care of themselves. Got no time for anything else."

"And a computer can simulate the warmth of a bed companion? My technology has grown in leaps and bounds." she grinned at him, gently teasing. "And I am not Sly, I resent that, resent it most strongly." and she leveled her best scowl at him. The effect was kind of ruined however by the playful gleam in her blue eyes.

Sky felt her cheeks faintly pinking again, and she smiled at him, "Now that's more like it Leo. Girls will fall all over you if you talk to them like that." Neatly she attempted to divert the attention away from her lovelife, or lack thereof. Didn't matter if a man didn't want her, she was the primary xenobotanist and xenozoologist on the Starship Enterprise.

"You got time to talk to me." she reminded him, smiling warmly.

He wasn't disappointed by the wait. Sky was intelligent and funny. She was also damn cute when riled. "Well, at least technology doesn't steal the covers and put its cold feet right on the back of your legs."

For the record? He hated that.

Leonard's snickering kinda fizzled into embarrassed -- kinda, mind you -- hiccups of chuckles. Damn but she was talking him up today. It was different from her usual ass-chewings... but he appreciated it. "That? Oh, that was nothin' but the truth. Nothin' special about that. I'd tell ya that any day of the week. And I make the time because it's worth talkin' to ya."

Maybe he'd just hold off a bit longer on that sip. The coffee was making the room a little warm.

"Besides, if I don't keep an eye on you, lord knows what sort of trouble you'd get into, Sly One."

She laughed at that, flicking her fingers at him in mock disgust, "Cold feet are awful," she allowed, "But nothing beats being snuggled up against someone and being held while you sleep." for a brief moment her expression was a little wistful, but she quickly snapped out of it and rolled her eyes, "Not that I would really know of course, being SlySky." and she poked her little pink tongue out at him.

Childish? Why yes, so what.

"Aw aren't you sweet, I...I think I can feel a tear.." and she mock dramatically brushed away an imagined tear before grinning at him broadly. "Dear Leo, I don't get into trouble. I create trouble."

Leonard was man enough to admit that even with specialized training in Psychology, some things could get past him. Perhaps when like spoke to like, it helped things along. Regardless, he caught that little wistful look and something in him smiled back in sympathy through his eyes. Before he could do anything -- what, he had no damn clue -- things changed. And he was recipient of the most precious raspberry he'd ever been graced with.

She'd earned the deep belly laugh that came out to surprise the neighbors. And maybe himself.

"Being SlySky, you're above all that anyway. We stupid mortals just don't get it yet," he snorted. "And naw, closer to say you are Trouble. Personified and loose on the ship. I should call Security while I've got you in my sights."

Before he could make good on the threat, the ship's internal comm paged him. Leonard sighed an apology and excused himself to use the wall unit. It wasn't a downright emergency, but the doctor on duty was beside himself. Apparently the patient was Denobulan. Well, yes, that explained everything. No getting around it. His shift had offically started.

"I'm sorry about that, Sky," he began explaining once he got back. "I've got a... fussy patient. Likes his ol' country doctor and only him." He paused to look down into her sweet, open face. It'd been good talking to her. He'd completely forgotten his foul mood. Hell, he'd nearly forgotten his shift. "I'd like to get together again real soon, if that's alright with you. Something besides Spock's dry ol' meetings, that is." He smirked fondly at those memories. She had a knack for making them go more pleasantly.

She laughed softly and grinned at him, opening her mouth to retort when the comm paged him. As he sighed and moved over to take the communication she watched him fondly. Dear Leo, he really had no idea what a great guy he was and that was a shame. But she knew, and she was sure that eventually he would grow to at least love himself a little bit.

As he came back over she rose to her feet, seeing from his expression that he would be heading off somewhere to deal with something. Sky nodded as he explained and smiled. "Drawback of being a decent Doctor, Doctor." she teased, "And yes, meeting up again is a must, who else will keep Trouble Personified in line if not you? And don't get me started on those meetings, or you'll never leave." she laughed and moved around the table to give him a loose but warm hug. "Stay safe, Leo." she said, stepping back and winking.

"See what charm gets me?" Leonard teased back before getting an armful of Sky. It wasn't quite a surprise, as she was a caring and friendly person that just made you expect nice things like hugs. Given the restraints of their largely professional relationship, they didn't really have the opportunity to indulge in illogical and sentimental Humanisms, to bring up the pointy-eared menace. They'd have to change that. Leonard liked the hugging.

"Heaven forbid I go lax in my duties. I'd likely get roasted in one of them meetings." She slipped from between his hands, tiny thing that she was, but left him the ghost of warmth and soft perfume. He thought a moment about when and how they should meet again. Damn sure as Space was dangerous, so would be his mood for at least the rest of the week. It took time to build up indifference to the idea of living your life in a speeding torpedo. But this weekend...

"As safe as possible on this damn thing. Say, how about Saturday brunch? We can sleep in to our hearts' content, then meet here to pretend we've got decent food waiting for us?" With her Sly ways, he'd probably not even notice he was eating. Or she'd be flinging it at him.

God, he loved women.

"It gets you patients who find you indispensible." she said, with a grin, flicking her dark hair back over her shoulder impatiently. She really had to find a way to restrain the thick hair, she thought idly, it just kept getting in her eyes or over her face. "And yes, although seeing the Science Officer try and rant about you being lax in your duties could be entertaining, I would rather you didn't get into trouble. Commander Spock can be a little bit of a pedant at times.

"Brunch sounds good." Sky agreed easily, grinning up at him, "How good are your imagining skills Leo? Cause I am thinking there will be a lovely barbeque waiting for us on Saturday." She was a little sad he was going now, but it was their job and as such nessicary, and besides, Saturday was not that far away.

"Spock's as much of a pedant as his lady a scrapper. No 'little' about it," Leonard smirked. He gently laid a hand on Sky's shoulder, squeezing friendly-like as he began pulling away from her, from his unexpectedly pleasant coffee run. "And I can imagine quite a lot if I've got the right incentive. You promise barbecue and I'll make telepaths twitch for meters away. Saturday it is. Until then, you take care."

He parted with a nod, moving briskly for the door. Not that he didn't want to stay longer too. The Denobulan in question, though, was a persnickety fellow who'd taken a shine to Leonard for no reason he'd ever been able to fathom. But they had plans, and it wasn't like he wouldn't see her around the Department.

Maybe he'd stop in before to mention that report he'd forgotten about.
