So, random, but I was wondering--
When you're doing panfandom... what sort of game do you prefer? It seems to me like there's two types--
1. The
milliways_bar/
outsideinn/Desperate-series sort of game, where most of the characters come and go in and out of their own world. The point of the game is mostly character interaction, there are occasional plots but even those tend to be character-driven (and/or total crack), etc.
2. The
damned/
beyondtherift/
hearts_andminds style of game, where the characters are completely seperated from their worlds (possibly there's an eventual way back, but if there is, it's usually used as a retirement or reset button). There's a seperate overarching plot -- usually a matter of who's behind the people being taken out of their world -- and character interaction is alongside or even secondary to that plot, and while there can be occasional more character-drive just-for-fun sideplots, most plots tie into the overarching.
Not, obviously, that people have to choose between one sort of game or the other, but when you're looking for a game, what's more likely to catch your attention? Which are you more interested in?
(I think I enjoy #1 more, but the problem is, eventually.... You kind of run out of things for your character to do. I feel like characters in #1 inherently have some sort of time limit before you have to start looking for plots, which with #2, especially if you're not running the game and the mods keep the players in the dark, there's usually new kernels of information. Also, #1 is a lot more every-player-has-a-say than #2, just by nature -- because with #2, new plots need a lot more screening to make sure they fit into the world.
I guess the main reason I like #1 is the same reason I have issues with it -- the random, plotless, pointless character interaction for the sake of character interaction. Which I absolutely love to do, but there comes a point where I want more. ...And also I have issues tagging strangers, but that's another issue altogether.)
So, yeah. Just... curious.
