Tavros had withdrawn in the aftermath of his kidnapping. He spent a lot of time enjoying the company of the animals in the habitats during that time before being discovered by what he thought of as a roving band of wisemen when he was in the mood to play pretend. They reminded him of a good friend, and they eventually lured him out of hiding and back into normal station life with their relaxed attitudes and complete lack of judgment. He wasn't even sure if they all knew that he'd been abducted not long ago, and he was completely fine with that.
Megachill drugged up hippies sure are great!
In the end, though, he found that he was becoming more and more miserable the longer he avoided speaking to the friends he had made before the incident. He was torn by the idea of finding someone. What if they were mad that he hadn't been around for so long? What if they weren't friends any more? Held back by his worries, Tavros didn't go searching for his friends directly. He instead chose to wheel his way around the parts of the station where he thought they were likely to spot him, and cycle through them for hours at a time in the hopes of a chance meeting.
It must have looked like pretty unusual behaviour to anyone who frequents high-traffic areas often enough to notice him. He was already becoming a subject of gossip among the local buskers, who knew him only as The Goofy Wheelchair Kid. He was sure that he'd find someone, though, as long as he kept it up.
