The station's Navigator folded space again, through the semi-secret gate Lafiel, Sah'ot and Zevran found. The fee had been paid and the secret to passing given (apparently one needed to bring a quantity of Antivesuvian soil to pass through safely, so somewhere in the station was what was essentially an excavated pleasure garden). An ansible transmitter was droped off on Antivesuvio, allowing them to communicate with the natives of that planet whenever they wished. Those who were new might have felt queasiness, headaches, or a sense of unease as the universe moved around them. Most, however, were used to it by now.
And abruptly they were through the gate, coming out near a small planetoid next to an ancient white dwarf star. A planetoid around the size of Earth's moon was nearby, but curiously no longer orbiting or spinning. Even stranger, despite its small size, its gravity was seventy eight percent of Earth standard. On the planet's surface were ruins. Those who wished to go down to investigate would be instructed on the proper use of spacesuits and shuttled there.
