Introducing: one human. Beware of irritability and sarcasm. Also of the dog.

It's been several weeks since Hawke crawled out of a bio-pod to find herself somewhere unimaginable. She thought she knew unimaginable; she was very wrong. A few weeks of being constantly overwhelmed by sights, sounds, and concepts that she's still struggling to comprehend have made that clear. She suspects that's going to go on for a while ( Read more... )

Sheeana is glad to see the presence of a large, menacing looking dog on board. Animals speak to that wild place within her. She and they usually have an understanding.

She kneels to put herself on its level and extends a hand, palm up, fingers curled in.

"Hello there. How did you get up here?"

[Teo actually isn't sure how he got up here, 'here' being a platform raised above a courtyard. He's pretty sure there were stairs involved, but where'd they go?

This person seems to know how to treat mabari, however, and is treating him with respect, so he continues to look at her and offers a tentative bark and tag wail rather than biting, as he sometimes would.]

That settles it then. He's a dog, not a wolf. Wolfs don't bark. Still, under that domesticated veneer, this creature is clearly not far from the wild. And with that comes certain needs.

"Can you understand me? You can't stay here. There's nothing for you to hunt. Come. I'll show you where you can find prey."

She stands and beckons.

[Prey? Actual prey? Something he's allowed to hunt? That is something Teo wants to know about. He shouldn't go without Master, though, they go together. He'll have to find her first, and then they can hunt, which is how it should be.

He barks again and wags his tail to show approval of this plan, then goes looking for his own scent, hoping it will take him back to wherever Master is; This Person should know her]

is there any particular substance or scent Hawke would have on her? worm_dancer July 1 2011, 20:01:34 UTC
"Oh, I see. You're looking for someone."

Sheeana glances around, making sure noone is there to witness the indignity that is about to follow. Then she crouches and sniffs where Teo is. She closes her eyes and sorts the molecules in her mind, looking for something above the normal reek of plants, patchouli, sweat and metal. It's a slower process than a canine's nose and takes more concentration but eventually yields similar results.

Leather, mostly. try_winging_it July 2 2011, 00:44:29 UTC
[Teo is intrigued. This One is sniffing as a dog would. This One is even more intelligent than he'd thought, if This One can use such skills; he's never found a person yet who really understood the power of scent. Even Master, who is perfect in every way, can't use her nose properly.]

Sheeana came up to kneel, looked around again to make sure noone had seen that.

"I'm sorry, I can't pick anything unique out of that. It's all the same, sweat, stale air, recreational narcotics, fuel, all the chemical detritus of our little closed society. Someone's wearing cured animal hide though, that's rare..."

She gave the dog a smile, a little embarrassed at catching herself rambling to a dog. With Duncan gone and Motoko scarce there weren't many people on the station who could keep up with her conversationally.

Somehow I don't think Teo's going to be added to the shortlist there. ;) try_winging_it July 2 2011, 16:50:19 UTC
[Ah, This One's nose must not be as good as his. That's too bad. He's found his scent though, and knows where to go now. He even thinks he smells Master nearby. That's helpful. She'll be annoyed with him, but he can distract her with This One. Even better.

He barks and trots a few feet, looking over his shoulder to see if This One follows.]

and now we skip ahead from their meeting at the ball worm_dancer July 29 2011, 06:06:19 UTC
Sheeana followed closely. This was his area of expertise.

Who she found surprised her immensely. She studied her face, looking for signs of recognition.

The pretty bird from the ball!

"Finally," Hawke muttered as her hound trotted into view. "And just where you have you been, and how much trouble have you gotten into this time?" She bent down to scratch Teo's ears, then straightened when she realized he came with company, and spoke to whoever was following him: "I hope my dog hasn't been pestering..."

At that point she glanced up into a pair of stunning blue-on-blue eyes. Ah. "...you," she finished rather weakly. The dancer. Well now, that was unexpected.

Well there was no disguising certain things, Sheeana thought. It was possible there was another slight, dark skinned girl with wild, curly hair on board. But without contacts, her eyes would give her away every time.

"Hello, pretty bird." She said with an amused, slightly reckless tone.

"He's been an absolute darling."

"You astonish me," Hawke said, recovering her aplomb. She'd been in stranger situations, and this one was probably inevitable; the price you pay for one-night stands is the morning after, as the saying went. At least the dancer was smiling, which boded well for a lack of regret. "I expected to hear he'd clawed up some machinery or stolen someone's dinner at the very least. Tales of Teo being well-behaved are few and far between."

Hawke straightened up. "So do I get a name this time, or shall I just keep calling you blue-eyes? Seems a bit too predictable." She grinned.

"I am Reverend Mother Sheeana. But after last night I suppose we can dispense with formalities." She said with mock aplomb and a sardonic bow. This wasn't the first time she'd in that situation. Sheeana was utterly unembarrassed by this.

"I have a way with wild things." She returned the grin. The way it turned up the corners of her mouth to expose her canines just a tiny bit implied that this sympatico might have been due to them being of a kind...First the worms, then the futars, now this.

"Reverend Mother...I think Zevran's mentioned you," Hawke mused. "Not a Reverend Mother as I would understand the term, he said. Last night would certainly confirm that much." She raised an eyebrow, smiling.

"A way with wild things, hmm? Then it will amuse you to know that my name is Hawke. I'd hardly call this fellow wild, however. If anything he's too damn tame, and smart enough to know that I have to take responsibility for anything he does. The pest." It's said with great fondness, however.
