He stopped short. Yes, he knew this was coming, but he wasn't exactly prepared for it. He took a deep breath.
"It is true that you and I have feelings for each other which I could only describe as being much deeper than friendship. I enjoy your company greatly, and would like to spend more time with you. However, we are both young, and from different worlds entirely, and floating in space on what largely amounts to a giant pile of rubbish. At this point, I leave this decision to you," he said.
"I am not a good person by any stretch of the meaning. I have done things to people which may or may not be morally objectionable. I make my work in poisons, which are seen as the underhanded method even among underhanded methods of damaging other living beings. Furthermore, I am a drifter, and my habit of seeking to gain the good graces of women far and wide is deeply ingrained in my psyche." He turned away a bit. "Lastly, I am damaged in a way that I cannot show to anyone, save my servant Riff. Even still..."
He looked back at Victoria, at the lace and ruffles and tight seams. "...even still, are you sure this is the kind of person you want?"
Vicky was preparing a screed of sorts for such just an occasion, however the emotions she was feeling at the moment caused most of her carefully prepared words to be lost to the void of her inner most thoughts.
"I..." she stammered for a second reaching for anything to say. "I still want to be with you, despite all that. I'm no saint myself, and have done things I regret on more then a few occasions." She begins to cry a little as she continues to speak. "But, I still want us to be together..."
When someone cries, their feeling changes. You can tell when someone is crying, because the air around them just feels different somehow. The hair on the back of his neck tingled a little.
He reached up to her face, brushed away the sparkle of a tear that began to run down her mask. "I'm bad at making promises," he said. "Let us see if the two of us can make it together, then, shall we?"
He, in his elegant gothic aristocrat clothing, and she, in her gothic lolita dress, would have made a perfect scene of which congoers would rush to take photos, as he dipper her slightly back, supporting her shoulders with his arm, and pushed his lips up to her mask's.
If words had escaped the doll-maiden the moment before, then the entire concept of speech seemed to elude her in the present.
Victoria, her body, mind and soul overflowing with things that had lay dormant for years, simply followed Cain's lead, closing her eyes and pressing her porcelain bound lips against his in an act of near mimicry.
She was unsure of alot of things about her life on the station, but at the moment, at least, she knew she was happy.
He held the embrace for a long moment. It had been quite a while since he'd actually really liked anyone to the point of trying to be with that person, and it was that simultaneously unfamiliar yet nostalgic feeling that made his skin tighten a bit and gave him gooseflesh.
He let the kiss go, brushed his fingers through a strand of her hair. "Shall we... prepare for the convention?" he said quietly, almost in a whisper. There was likely still some work to be done, but he'd be fine with just being together for a bit first.
Victoria, still exasperated by all that had transpired in the last few moments, withdrew herself from the lip-lock with a total lack of grace. "That sounds like an excellent idea. Did you have anything in mind?" She returned Cain's words in a manner suggesting a lack of breath.
