They had earned the allegiance of one tribe, weakened another, and sold one of their own to a puerile merchant. They had sealed the cave behind them, after finding out that the technology effected the minds of the native people and animals. They had duelled, machinated, flirted and made friends ( Read more... )

The moment Mary Weather was alone, someone had something to say to her.

Maryweather had found herself with time alone, finally, when Cain went to speak with someone, or do... something. Of course... she had little to do except wait for him, or so she thought.

Leaning against the wall, Maryweather fiddled with the hem on the shirt she wore now - the same one she had worn onto the planet, leaning back against a tree and staring up at the sky. The girl hadn't thought she would miss this place at all when she left, but now... a frown crept across her face for just a moment before disappearing.

A small, shy face peaked out from the other side of the pod. It was one of the other kids, the same age as her but smaller, shyer. He'd kept quiet during most of the games but when she talked he would give a gap toothed smile. "Mari'wetrar..." He walked over hesitantly through the churned mud.

Mary saw his head peek out and a small smile crossed her face. He was one of the smaller children, certainly, and she wondered what he had to tell her.

"Ah, yes?" she asked, watching him walk as she leaned away from the tree. He was behaving a little oddly, but then.. she didn't know what was on his mind. Had he told her his name? Mary searched her memory to see.

The T'aiab would like to give Cain some last minute instruction. Or so he says. Climb the rope ladder he lets down, count?

Most certainly yes, he would climb that ladder! Keeping as much of his balance as possible, he put his boots on the rungs and ascended upward.

Up, up into the t'aiab's pods, three of them interconnected and all filled with pots of preparations, cultures in wooden jars and bowls, strange tools for sieving, separating, stirring and doing things unknown. There were wall hangings drawn with circles in bright paints. Only one space remained clear but for a bowl filled with bubbling bright stuff. The power from that bowl could be felt even by the psychicly stunted. It was a magnetic thing, almost as if it had a heavy gravity to it, and indeed the table on which it stood was reinforced.

"My most humble apologies for the mess. My apprentices claim they are out gathering for me, though they are probably off lolygagging in the sun, chewing yaoddrran root and making love to their paramours." The old man said with a mischevious twinkle in his eyes. "So you wish to learn the ways of a T'aiab."

The place looked like some strange studio a mad artist in London might keep.

A smirk flashed across his face, and Cain bowed deeply to the shaman. "That you would even consider teaching me your science is a great honour, and I would like nothing more than to be instructed in it," he said, drawing from his pocket-full-o'-formality to make himself look better.

and to all the children, congratulations the_measurers August 6 2010, 21:17:50 UTC
A party of Iksilari from Go'atsun's tribe followed them back to their landing pods. One boat was covered, lashed to one of the others.

All the children had turned out to say goodbye to Mary, crowding their boats and threatening to tip them over.

He sighed a bit, looked back at the Promise-Chief Go'atsun. As much as he was just playing with her earlier, he had actually grown to genuinely like her. I mean, not like her like her, but-- well, you get it. He tipped the brim of his hat, and then turned, putting his hand on his sister's shoulder.

Sah'ot had needed to be hauled up into the pod by whoever was strong enough, as he saw no point to going up into the strange human-thing when there was plenty of perfectly good, if cluttered water right here to hunt and play in. He had already shrugged out of his highness.

An almost as reverted Chef Glr'Brrrnglorp had helped, having almost as embarrassingly been found clinging with all her might to a rock and looking for crabs.

Since returning from the mission, Momiji had remained completely silent. She hadn't spoken a word to anyone, not even Nitori. Her look was... distant to say the last. She hadn't even flinched as her shoulder was patched up. She just simply seemed to not... feel.
