Finding his first victim was easier than Yuri had thought it would be. Dispatching him on the other hand... Not so much, and the ensuing mess was not something he wanted to leave lying around and getting blood on the presents. Luckily there was a manhole nearby, and after stripping the body of useful things like weapons, ID card, the red toga, hat, and some interesting-looking pocket junk, Yuri took the liberty of dropping the rest of the remains down into the sewer. The toga had a few tears and some bloodstains, but he figured it wouldn't be too noticeable in the dark.

There were only two more stops on his schedule before the big one, but the clock in the sleigh read that he had exactly fifteen minutes to get them done.

"There is no way I'll be able to get to both those places..." he muttered, eyeing the map with stops marked off. "This one's kinda on the way, so I guess I'll just skip the other one... Sorry, whoever. No presents this year." He paused a moment, looking closer at the stop that was on the way. "'Dissident-- take hostage and leave enclosed form'? Thanks but no thanks. You're getting whatstheirnames' presents instead, I think."

Seven minutes later, Yuri was thanking luck that he wasn't a particularly wide person as he scurried back up the chimney at the first stop, feeling rather good about himself. "Now for the dirty work."

As he landed on the roof of the house (mansion), Yuri noted that he was a little bit early. "Ah well, probably doesn't matter all that much," he thought aloud, only to discover upon entry that he hadn't been early enough.

There, lying on a soggy mattress in a pool of his own blood, was the man he'd been sent to kill. And there, standing over the body, was a boy of perhaps thirteen or fourteen, holding a bloody knife and looking rather green and somewhat surprised.

Yuri stood in confusion for a moment before summoning words. "What happened?"

The boy looked over, blinking, then his expression seemed to shift from surprised to horrified. "I told Mum, but she wouldn't believe me. He--" he stopped short, voice wavering, then dropped the knife and began sobbing uncontrollably.

"He tried to hurt you, so you killed him?" Yuri asked, putting what seemed to be two and two together. The boy nodded, then stumbled over to Yuri and buried his face in the red toga as he continued to sob.

Well, this is an odd turn of events, Yuri thought, holding his arms out awkwardly. I get sent to murder somebody, and find out he's been murdered by his kid. "Ah... well, you already did my job for me... It's not like I have any reason to stick around, so..."

"Can-- can I come with you?" the boy asked from Yuri's chest. "They'll pro'lly arrest me or something, and Mum doesn't care, and aauhuhuh--" the sobbing began afresh, with increased vigour. Yuri looked down and winced.

"Okay, sure. I guess the Junkstation's better than getting arrested for murder."

"I gotta-- hic-- get some stuff..." the boy mumbled. He detached himself from Yuri's chest and left the room, coming back shortly (a little too shortly) thereafter with a suitcase and a messenger bag. Now doubly-glad that he'd dumped his Senter Klaus in the sewer, Yuri helped the kid get his things up the chimney and into the sleigh.

Now how the hell do I explain this... he wondered once they were away.

The odd turn of events was to prove even odder on the trip itself, when Yuri was distracted from driving by an odd point of pressure in the middle of his back. A glance out of the corner of his eye revealed that his passenger had stopped crying and was holding what he was going to assume was a weapon.

"Change course," the boy ordered.

"Excuse me?"

"You're not taking me to Senter Klaus headquarters. You're taking me to the edge of town, or I kill you like I killed my stepdad."

It was almost ironic, really. "Put it away, kid. I'm with the Resistance. We're not going to Senter Klaus headquarters."

"Can I keep the knife out anyway so I can pretend to be hijacking the sleigh?" the boy asked cheerfully.

"I'd really rather you put it away," Yuri told him. "I might have to make a quick movement, and then you've got a dead driver on your hands." Shit, this kid is nuts. What the hell was I thinking? He was impressed at the boy's acting before their departure, though.
