It's been almost two months since I posted something. I've been neglecting my reading because it's been too hot. I've been absorbing movies instead, so many movies, too lazy to turn pages. But I thought I'd throw out a few things about some TV I've been watching but maybe never mentioned.
Daredevil - Finished it, great show, good fight scenes. A

Yay for new tv shows! The heatwave is here now as well, I know what you mean by being it too hot to read. I can't wait for it to be over. I need normal summer weather, please.
I only watched the first episode of the second season of Penny Dreadful: I think it's a great show, but the first season was so dark and it kept triggering me to the point I had to listen to it like a radio show instead of watching it. Very unpleasant. Plus I thought the ending was way too rushed, considering the pace up to that point had been excruciatingly slow. I loved Sense8 but yep, the first couple episodes are really boring. You'll have to be patient for a while before things start happening, but once they all understand how their telepathy works, the pace quickens and it becomes a truly great show.
I loved Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell so so much, just like I loved the novel. The first two episodes are mostly a huge introduction to this world and characters, but once you get to episode 3 it's one fantastic episode after the other! It sets the bar for how book adaptations should be. ^^
Daredevil was so good! I marathoned it on Netflix when it came out, and by episode 10 I was calling my best friend in tears, at half past midnight, to tell her I would never hide my superhero identity from her. I think I gave her quite the scare. :D Regarding the comics, I only read the Iron Fist series by Matt Fraction, so I'm not an expert, but I'd say the supernatural hints in DD are there only to be introductory to the Iron Fist show.
I loved Agent Carter an awful lot, but I'm so behind on Agents of Shield it's not even funny. I fear I'll have to catch up because it's canon to the movies and all, but I found it so boring. =_=

I do think Penny Dreadful sometimes feels like it's trying to cram too much in, not always paced well. But I usually forgive it for being so willing to use all the Victorian tropes and be generally shameless. Also Eva Green gives her all, to everything.
I was suprised how many people agreed with me when I said I was disappointed with Sense8, that kind of, 'yes the first episode is terrible and slow but keep going, it gets better.' One of those times where it was probably really lucky to go out all at once and be marathoned. So I shall take a stab at more episodes because I don't think I've ever seen the hive mind idea tried on TV before.
Hiding your superhero identity only leads to trouble, honestly. Unless your friends are all utterly terrible at keeping secrets just share! Yes, I expected ninjas and crime and maybe a few references to superheroes - but it almost had a faint Constantine-esque vibe to it (even though it's the wrong universe.) I liked it though!
I had a lot of trouble with Shield too, a few of the characters I liked, and a few grew on me. But mostly I find it frustrating and full of wasted potential. It kept going off in completely different directions from the show I sort of wanted it to be. And I think the fact that they have to set up for Civil War next year is going to take the show in a direction I enjoy even less. Which makes me a little sad. Like you I'm watching it because it's all connected...when Iron Fist and Jessica Jones start it's all going to get so big!
