Here there be Doctor Who spoilers! (For TEoT, of course.)
So I finally got to see "The End of Time." I should've thought to look it up on YouTube months ago. And yet, I sort of didn't want to see it knowing it was the end of the Tenth Doctor.
It was good, although IMHO not at the level of either Utopia/The Sound of the Drums/Last of the Time Lords or Journey's End/The Stolen Earth. That he ended up dying saving Wilfred was heartbreaking. His little spate of rage was totally understandable, because he's going to die (in this form) to save one, unimportant old man. And he had the choice, but not really. It's not who he is. I liked all the stuff about the Time Lords. "That's how I choose to remember them." Obviously he was right. The Time Lords were going to sacrifice the entire universe to survive in some ascended form. (Stargate, anybody?) They destroyed the Master, driving him mad. I liked how "the enmity of the ages" was naturally the Doctor and the Master. Some good stuff there too, with the Doctor wondering who he would be without the Master. (Innnnteresting.) I also sort of get the impression from this that the Doctor and the Master were from, say, aristocratic families.
But what happened to the Master, anyway?
I also liked his reward, seeing the people this incarnation cared about. Of course, being a Ten/Jack shipper I'd have liked more, but this worked. Except Martha. What the heck is with that? Wasn't she engaged to Tom - and now married to Mickey? Huh? Plus, she's apparently decided to stop being a doctor and freelance alien hunt. No, don't care for that.
Plot hole: why didn't Rassilon use the Glove of Doom on the Doctor? The only reason I can think of is that he wanted to torture the Doctor with his inability to kill on the ascended plane. Because he didn't hesitate to kill the lady Time Lord just for suggesting they should give up, and the Doctor was about to foil his last-ditch plan. Side note: wonder if the Glove of Doom is related to those Torchwood resurrection gloves somehow...
"Worst. Rescue. Ever." =)
"The song is ending, but the story never ends." Ah hah! We've got the Ood saying no pesky limits on regeneration.
I will miss the Tenth Doctor. But he lives on in fanfiction!
