Meira restlessly crossed and uncrossed her legs.
She bit her lip.
She tapped her fingers on the exam table.
She let out an impatient sigh.
Dammit Herbert is slow.
Finally, after what seemed like hours - she refused to believe the chronometer claiming it had only been around 15 minutes - Dr. Herbert Henderson shuffled into the room.
He picked up the PADD and ran a hand through his hair.
He looked tired.
Perfect.
A tired doctor is a lazy doctor, and a lazy doctor doesn't always question what the patient says.
"Hello there Meira," he said after a small yawn escaped his lips. "Need something?"
He had that well-known oh-damn-I-have-to-treat-a-doctor look on his face.
This couldn't get easier.
"I've been having trouble sleeping the last few nights, just wondering if you could get me a prescription for Hydronol."
She grinned, trying to ignore the fact that her heart had suddenly doubled in speed.
"Trouble sleeping? Something going on?"
"Oh, n-nothing. I uh - just started sleeping in a bed with more people than myself, not quite used to it."
Not quite a lie. Sure she had stopped sleeping alone months ago, but he didn't need to know that.
He nodded understandingly. Or was just didn't think it was worth pursuing.
"Alright. Be back with it in a minute."
He shuffled out yawning.
A few minutes of hair-blowing, leg-crossing, and fingertapping later, he was back with a small bag.
"There's 5 doses in here. That's as much as I can give you without medical testing."
Meira took the bag and thanked him. Her hand shook slightly - so this is what it feels like to break a real law.
She took a deep breath and frowned as she walked out. That had been far too easy. It had worked in her favor but... he hadn't even recommended a weaker medication first, or questioned anything she'd said. Yes she was a doctor but that was no excuse.
She'd have to talk to bossman, recommend he ban too many double shifts.
Tucking a loose hair behind her ear, she exited the medical bay and headed for Emma's room, sending her a message.
"Got the medication. Want me to meet you in your room?"
