Concert Review

Since I worked a 15 hour shift during the hurricane a few weeks ago (starting at 3am!!!!), I was chosen as one of the people who got to go to the U2 concert down in Miami last night. 10 of us were selected. We rode down to Miami in a limo provided by work (sick sick Hummer limo -- totally rocked! It had leather and leopard skin interior! Pimp daddy limo, boyyyyyyeeee!!) and got to the concert in time to be in the mad crush to buy concert tickets and find our seats. We missed all but the tail end of The Instinct, the opening band. It didn't sound bad from what I heard, but I'd have to really give it a listen without it cranked up to decible's unheard of before I make a final comment.

Now, I don't have the latest album, and what I know of it I only know from the radio. But the concert was amazing! They played a great mix of old stuff and new stuff. They opened with a bunch of songs off the new album, then into some older stuff, including I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. That's such a great song; I've always loved it. During the show they had some nifty effects with a bunch of lightbulb screens. And during a few songs, Bono came out on this extended bit of stage and was right in the middle of the audience.

Our seats were great. We could see Andy and The Edge and Larry and Bono just fine. When they did Sunday Bloody Sunday (and said it was our song now), you could barely hear him sing because the audience was drowning him out. Pride and Where the Streets have No Name were the first encore -- of three. I've never heard a crowd in the palm of a performer's hand like this.

I'd read some reviews of the Vertigo tour that claimed that U2 was way past their prime and that they should just stop the concerts. These people are upset because it's not an angry bunch of youngsters on the stage but a group of politically minded men who know how to use their music to get their message to the masses in a manor that they can readily understand.

At the show they spoke about One.org, which is an organization that is trying to put a dent in world hunger and slow down the spread of AIDS, especially in third world countries.

I really enjoyed the concert. Now if the ringing in my ears would stop and my voice would come back... I'd be a happy camper!
