AnS inspired cooking: Panda Cake!

Nov 18, 2009 01:51

Hey everyone!
Do you remember that specific AnS episode around last Christmas, where the guest got to taste all kinds of different Christmas cakes?
Do you remember that specific cake that managed to steal the show and bring out DoS Jun? XD

That's right! It was the PANDA CAKE!
But here are some screencaps, to refresh our memory:

The panda cake makes its appearance!

Sho solemnly prepares to make the cut. This is serious business!

But Jun argues that this job requires the steady hand of an artist. ^^

Aw Oh-chan can't look! But Jun seems to really enjoy the show...

...I mean reeeally enjoy it!! O.o'

After seeing the episode (episode 114, aired on 2008.12.15), the panda cake kind of remained in the back of my mind, and wouldn't go away. So one day I decided to do some google-ing, and found the bear pan that was used for the cake.
It was Wilton's Stand-Up Cuddly Bear Pan. Luckily I found a distributor in my country, and ordered it right away.

My first attempt was a failure, because I didn't grease the pan properly, so the baked batter stuck to the surface and the cake split into pieces. :(
So I put lots of margarine on the pan, and sprinkled it with flour during my second attempt, and this seemed to do the trick! ^^
Here is my version of the AnS Panda Cake:

Still in the pan, with the front already removed.

Standing on its own. ^^

Decorating in progress. It did take at least an hour I think -.-

Finished! ^__^

A cake is a cake after all...

It had to be eaten at some point! ^^"

As you can see, my batter was plain, while the one in AnS was chocolate with chocolate chips.
I thought about making it chocolaty, but decided to use my trusted layer cake batter instead, for my first bear.

This was lots of fun to try!
I wonder which AnS episode will inspire me next! XD
