"A Samurai Does Not Run Through the Rain"

May 04, 2004 10:19

I debated whether or not to hit the gym last night, after a week-plus absence occasioned by the move and the test. It was raining in that sort of slight will-sapping drizzle that is perfect for curling up inside with a book. Ultimately I figured if a little rain could stop me, that didn't exactly bode well for my willpower. So I went.

I ran into lindyninja at the gym, and we chatted a bit as we crossed paths in our workouts.

As we left, I expressed surprise that he wasn't wearing a jacket to ward off the rain. He quoted from Ghost Dog, saying that "A samurai does not run through the rain, because he knows he'll get wet anyway."

So we split off in opposite directions, and I was momentarily puzzled, since he and kickindancer live only a few streets over from us, in the same direction.

As I walked away, not bothering with the umbrella, I waved and shouted, "This is me walking [though the rain]!"

He realized I was walking home, and called me back to the parking lot, and offered me a ride home in his car. So apparently a samurai should not run, but it is permissable to drive. And I was grateful.

(lindy, I'll definitely show you the walking way soon; make us strong like bull)
