Amen on the pants!!! Even sexy girls looks wierd in low-risers that expose their ass crack... on the really skinny girls it's this flat, bony-looking area, and it creeps me out.
It's a no-win situation. If they're too skinny, it's flat and bony, and if they actually have flesh, anything more can also often result in unflattering top spillover.
At the very least, wear a thong, some underwear, something!
I know I'm getting old and cranky when I'm complaining about seeing part of a woman's ass.

Yes, you are. :)

The problem with said jeans is that they are not meant for sitting down, and certainly not bending over. What fits and sits just right standing can give bad shows when doing other things.
I wonder if there is some magical middle ground? Low-risers with magical butt-covering action?
A little flash of thong or anything else is fine, but I think in a food establishment in particular, one would be slightly more mindful of accidental exposure.

Ok, I'm breaking my promise, but only to answer your question. Yes, there are, as Dancer mentioned. There's a whole continuum of low and ultra-low that one would probably only appreciate if one is a woman shopping for jeans. My guess is that you have only even noticed when the woman was wearing super-ultra-low. Probably 90% of the women you see in jeans are wearing low rise ones. They're just not ass-crack showing low, nor are all the women wearing midriff bearing baby-T's that draw attention to the style of the jeans and their pierced belly buttons.
but I think in a food establishment in particular, one would be slightly more mindful of accidental exposure.
Yeah, if their going to wear low rise jeans in a food joint, they should at least wear a hair net or get a bikini wax. Ok, sorry, I'm gross.
100? Could you walk afterwards?Yes, albeit kind of funnily. These were light, bodyweight + 10 kg. Actually, it's the 100 lunges that

I pretty much buy this argument, but I find it hard to accept the idea of wearing something that only looks good standing up. I try to sit down in all the clothes I buy before I buy them. The reason is that I just don't have that many occassions when I'm out where there isn't a moderate amount of sitting down. For example, if I'm wearing jeans socially, then I'm likely to being hanging out with friends, and eventually we retire to somebody's house to lounge around and have a bull session.
Ha! Well, mooning the back of the sofa, probably, but also bulging my gut forward. Tho I do often like to lean on the arms of sofas rather than sit. I tend to do this mostly on my own sofas, since I don't want to presume that other people are comfortable with their furniture being abused.
I think finding clothing that is flattering (or at least not unflattering) sitting down is more challenging.
Well, I'm orders of magnitude less social than you, so I don't often go to people's homes. Most places where I do sit down, there's no one behind me, or there's a chair back behind me, so it doesn't matter much what's hanging out. Most of the time that I'm outside my home, I'm either out walking around or sitting at my desk at work, where only one or two people will ever go near me. So what shall I dress for, when I sit and no one's around, or where I'm outside and see hundreds of people? If I thought I was making my co-workers uncomfortable,it would be a different matter.
Yeah, as you mentioned before, you're only likely to make your coworkers uncomfortable if you come to work in a suit. Jeans have much more limited utility for me at the moment, since my job is business casual. I often only wear them once a week, when I'm socializing on the weekend. When I know nobody will see me but hubby, I often wear raggy sweat-pants and other things that are comfortable but unappealing.
I can definitely see utility for attire designed for standing up. On the other end of the spectrum, it's good for clubbing, where you do stand up most of the time (I believe one of Enoch's other friends mentioned that). I like to go club dancing, but have pretty much no friends who enjoy it, and it's just not a blast to do alone IMHO.
Enoch, check it out. Your LJ has devolved into comparative fashions for geek chicks.

I am addicted to capri yoga pants. They don't actually look all that bad.

I love clubbing. I think I freaked out some of my New Orleans friends because I'm normally so retiring but get me to a club and I really dance, put those highly trained core muscles to good use.
In Chicago, I never actually go for two reasons. One is the same as yours. The other is that I'm a bit intimidated by the clubs. I'm sure there are many with the right sort of atmosphere, age range, and music where I would have a good time, but I don't know how to find out which those are. I guess there's a third reason. It's past my bedtime.

actually, there are standards for working in food settings. Mostly concerning loose hair, but I'm sure there are others.

Me, I buy clothing for ...
Yes?
If I want to look nicer around the waist, I just wear a corset or a girdle.
But low rise jeans are comfortable and don't inhibit breathing.
