Have you ever decided against going to a show for one or all of the following reasons?
- “I’ll see them next time”
- “It’s too far away/too much bother/too expensive”
- “I should have seen them back in the day, they might suck now…”
I have and it has been the right decision and sometimes it has definitely been wrong. I missed seeing MVP back in the early nineties because of the cursed “I’ll see them next time” reason but they didn’t come again until 10/2/08. I almost did the “It’s too far away/too much bother/too expensive" and the “I should have seen them back in the day, they might suck now…" but I am so glad I didn't. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen period!
The light show was in true shoegaze form with lots of floating shapes and blue backgrounds complete with stars that took over the whole space. The sound was amazing and they are without a doubt the loudest band I have ever seen. Josh and I both have been waiting to see this band for almost 16 years. Our excitement combined with a very healthy amount of drinks before and during the show made us feel like we in our early twenties again and we danced without a fucking care in the world.
After the show I ran into my sister who got us backstage and we actually meet the band. I was pretty tipsy so my usual awkward fangirl self took a backseat and I actually had a pretty good conversation with Kevin Shields about bits and bobs. He is seems to be pretty shy and quiet but was really nice.
That show stayed with me for days afterward. I know I truly witnessed something special or at least special to me.
