Weeeeeeeeell... it was ok. I actually really like it, the tone was good n dark and they kept a coherent story despite missing out so much! Strangley I wanst too bothered about the bits they cut, except maybe the character of Ludo Bagman. It was more some little bits that just wound me up. Including...
+ Hermione's horrible pink ball dress and american-teen-movie reaction to Ron at the Yule Ball. What happened to her being the cool elegant girl??? hmm?? hmm??
+ Cedric's death was waaaaay too drawn out! It was much better when it just >happened!< in the book!
+ Barty Crouch Jr. being in it from the start. I know i know they needed to for time, but it kinda spoiled the mystery.
+ The obligatory flying dragon shots. They really were just showing off!!
+ Ginny is STILL not remotley compelling or firey. In a word, boring! The set up for her in later films is waaaay off the mark and could cause major problems.
+ The ending. After so much drama it was a bit... weak. Like trying to reach back to the early films and the sweetness and light of it all. After such a horrific drama ot was poor.
And of course, my biggest problems..... THE SHIPPINESS!!! (do NOT read on if havent read books!)
Ok so we all know, after book 6 if not before, that its gonna be Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny. Right? So what the hell are the film ppl playing at with the shippiness in this film?? I mean are they trying to make it look like Harry and Hermione will end up happily ever after?? Whilst making good ole Ron look like a straggler. And Ginny's character is just... well... not there. She's screwed. Their whole ship is. She needed an intro in this film and didnt get it, so when the kiss happens in film 6... talk about a shock!!
Arrrrgggh!! Why cant they get it right?? Its really off kilter in this film and i did NOT like that at all.
>coughcough< Ok calm now.
So what did I like??
+ Voldemort. He rocked! Totally rocked! Looked amazing, sounded creepy; ok see he flounced around like a panto villain ocassionally but still, he was great!
+ Daniel Radcliffe: Ok so Ive given the guy stick, a LOT. And mostly deserved me thinks. But in this film, more specifically the end, he makes up for it. Really. His performance in the graveyard and then back at the Triwizard with Cedric's body was great and even I was moved. I cried. So thumbs up Danny boy!
+ Harry and Ron's argument and make up. Nice and fun. Nice and real. Liked it.
+ Myrtle in the baths with Harry. It was disturbing to see the guy half naked but still it made me giggle.
+ And of course, the dragons!! Pretty!!! In fact all three challenges were really well done. Woot!
So in all a good film. I liked it lots but there were some bits that i really hated. So hit and miss. But overall the tone was excellent. The Quidditch World Cup was nice to see and the Death Eaters looking like a black version of the Ku Klux Klan was quite...freaky!!
But yeah... I liked. :) Yey Harry Potter!!!
