It's been really difficult to deal with life lately. To read the news and be sure this is the end of the world. The Earth is dying and no one is trying to make it better. The people in charge keep insisting on making it worse because it doesn't affect them personally. The Amazon is on fire, the ice caps are melting, species are going extinct in record rates - air quality and water are bad. Humans are treating each other without respect and I see very little patience or kindness anymore. Children are being imprisoned, people are terrified of being gunned down if they go to a public place. People choosing to kill themselves because they cannot afford medical treatment. Who has the energy for kindness anymore when we are stressed all the time? It's all we can do to just make it through the day and pay our bills with a system rigged against us.
The majority of people want things different, but the system has been made so the powerful get what they want and try to convince us its what we asked for. I feel powerless. I went to put a plastic bottle in the recycle bin at work yesterday and saw all the stupid shit people put in the bin and was disappointed in them not being respectful, but then thought "nothing is even really getting recycled anyway probably...even when we try". And what am I supposed to do about that? I don't know where the recycling facility is to take it myself to be sure, and who would have the time anyway? And many places they ship it somewhere else and we have no idea if it actually happens. Other than voting, I don't know what to do to make it better. And even that is rigged, as our state is so gerrymandered that progressives don't have a chance of winning anymore, even though they're the majority.
Some days I think, maybe it's good I am not super healthy because I am not sure how much more I could take if things get worse. So maybe it's better that I might only have 25-30 more years. I feel bad for the children growing up now, I don't see much hope for them, things are too far gone. The only thing I can do to keep going and try to even have a modicum of joy left is to ignore the destruction and try to live in a fantasy world of books, TV and vacations. I don't want it to have to be that way but how else can we make it through the day in this world we have been given? I've given up on dreams and now I just wish reality wasn't a cesspool.
