{fst} Exorcise the past (Mentalist, Cho/Jane)
Notes: Within the past month I have become thoroughly hooked on slashing Cho/Jane from The Mentalist. Absolutely love this pairing, pretty sure it's making my top five OTPs. I've been working on a few fics, a couple of which have been posted. As I'm wont to do, I ended up tossing together a playlist to have for a soundtrack while writing. I had the idea that at some point I'd make a FST, but I really didn't think it would be anytime soon.
Then I decided that an upcoming challenge for my new community caseland would be a fanmix. Now, I'd already done a fanmix basics post for teamsidekick a few months ago, but I'd been considering doing a more thorough tutorial. Well, that tutorial happened (5 parts) and I decided I should use the opportunity to make my Cho/Jane fanmix. Afterall, it's for a fandom included in caseland so it was an appropriate example.
Exorcise the Past
- A Kimball Cho/Patrick Jane Fanmix -
Track notes: I ended up arranging this mix as something of a progression of Cho and Jane's relationship, from friendship and attraction to something that goes deeper. They both have some serious shit in their pasts that would have to be dealt with to get anywhere. There's also the matter of how much the on-going situation with Red John affects Jane - who he is now, how he reacts, how he sees relationships of any kind... The mix wraps up with Jem's "Falling for You" which caught my ear early on and secured its place in this mix. The lyrics throughout that song strike me as true for Jane. I'm actually particularly fond of "It's true I've become a skeptic How many couples really love Just wish I had a crystal ball To show me, if it's worth it all." I sort of have this head-canon that Jane does want something to believe in, although I don't think he ever believe in psychics or magic.
