The most aggravating thing in my life right now is the military drill team I'm involved in. I volunteered to be a part of it for a second year because my experience with it last year felt so incomplete (bad weather in Virginia prevented us from ever competing). This year, ROTC freshman are not required to be on drill team and so few joined and many quit in the first few weeks. On our most recent practice, we had only six members, well short of the minimum 17 people needed to compete. But for some reason, the people in charge have decided to try to keep drill team alive even though I see no point in it now. Thus, drill team simply became a waste of my time. They did however put practice on hiatus for the last two weeks and this has shown me how much I appreciate the time saved from not having to be on drill team. But there have been rumors that they are going to make drill team mandatory for certain individuals in their attempts to keep it alive. I for one think this is bullshit. I am extremely doubtful that we'll be able to compete this year, considering that we didn't last year or the year before (despite the fact that they promised we would). If they manage to keep drill team alive this year it'll probably result in us practicing drill for six months and then...nothing.
In other news, the bus driving job has been going pretty well. A three-hour shift goes by pretty fast. All I basically do is sit there, listen to the radio, and drive for three hours. It sure beats flipping burgers. One bad thing about it is that it's sort of difficult to use the bathroom while working. I mean, I'm the only driver on the bus, it's not like there's someone to drive for me while I'm peeing. Plus, the bus has no toilet. The only thing I could do is park the bus somewhere near a bathroom, run inside a building and pee as fast as I can. Then, I would run back to the bus to my waiting passengers and hope I didn't get thrown off my schedule too much. Overall though, it hasn't been a big problem. My only bad day was when I was late to a shift because my car got towed.
I've had a rifle in my closet for the last two and a half weeks. I've been having a lot of fun spinning it around in the courtyard outside of my apartment. I realize I enjoy drill a lot, I just hate my drill team.
