CIVILIAN LIFE:

Q1. Name: Pixiestyxs

Q2. How did you find out about Elite of the Fleet? I saw the advert for it when I was checking the daily post on the Star Trek Newsletter

Q3. When did you first become interested in Star Trek? I first became interested in Star Trek when I was a little girl. My dad was a big fan so when I was old enough to understand what was going on, he sat me down to watch TNG and the rest is history. I was stuck on Star Trek from that moment on.

Q4. Why have you decided to join Elite of the Fleet? I was looking for a way into the fandom and this seemed like a good opportunity.

Q5. Who is your favourite Star Trek character? I would have to say Captain Picard. He was the first character that I liked when I started watching, and he kind of stuck with me through the years. I rewatch all of the movies' that he's in whenever I can.

Q6. And the least? I don't have a least favorite character. I do have a least favorite characterization. I dislike the way that Uhura is portrayed in most Reboot Spock/Kirk fics. The authors make her out to be really bitchy and in the way of Spock/Kirk's "true love."

Q7. Which television (or film) series is your favourite? The Next Generation will always be my favorite as I have many fond memories of it, but I did enjoy the Reboot movie a lot and it is what made me want to get into fandom.

STARFLEET LIFE:

Q8. What do you hope to gain from your service in Starfleet?

Q9. Is there any occupation in Starfleet you feel you would be particularly unsuited for? Probably anything that involved a lot of blood. I'm a hemophobic, which is a fear of blood. Even in fictional settings, just the description of blood makes me very ill. Which is ironic since I love slasher films. I just have to cover my eyes when the blood starts to fly.

Q10. The four current Academic Tracks at the Academy are Tactics, Operations, Exploratory Sciences and Medical Sciences. Describe how you could be an asset to each of these departments.
Tactical: [FYI: Navigation, Piloting, Command Specialisation - sometimes known as Command Division] I have a lot of experience leading a group of people. I am personable and I feel like that is a good trait when you are trying to lead people. Also, I am very trustworthy, which is handy when you are telling your crew that they should put their lives in your hand. Also, with my handy GPS I am fearless in where I go, be it hiking to driving to anywhere in between.
Operations: [FYI: Engineering, Diplomacy, Administration, Communications, Security] I am good at diffusing tense situations, be it between man or machine. I like to think that I am a good problem solver.
Exploratory Sciences: [FYI: Physics, Xenobiology, Xenobotany, Chemistry, Astronomy, Mathematics] This would probably be the hardest track for me to be on. I have always been particularly bad at the sciences, but I am willing to learn anything and I have a true love of learning so it wouldn't be a hardship for me to do it.
Medical: [FYI: General Practitioners, Physiology, Psychology, Psychiatry, Nursing, Specialisations] I am a good listener. When my friends have problems they always come to me because they know I will listen and not judge them. I am the keeper of a lot of secrets.

Q11. What are your top five strengths?
01. Intelligence. I love learning new things and pick new things up pretty quickly.
02. Compassion. I empathize with people, even those I do not know.
03. Outgoingness. I equate this with being able to speak my mind. I'm not afraid to give my opinion, yet I do not force my opinions on others.
04. Openness. I say I will always try something at least once. I don't like to limit myself from new experiences.
05. Self-discipline. I know what my boundaries are and how to pace myself when working. I always try to finish my tasks even when I would rather be doing something else.

Q12. What are your top five weaknesses?
01. Strong-Mindedness, i.e., stubborn
02.Passive. I sometimes let people walk all over me. I have an inability of saying no to others when they ask for help, even if it means not doing something for myself.
03.Perfectionist. I can never let things go. I always have to try to make everything perfect, even if it sometimes means I am late finishing things.
04. I can sometimes have a lack of self-confidence, so I ask for reassurance from my peers.
05. I sometimes hold a grudge. It might only be a week, but I've still held it and it might make change my opinion of you.

Q13. What is your biggest fear? Besides the hemophobia? It would have to be a fear of rejection.

Q14. Do you consider yourself to be a leader, or a follower? One of my favorite quotes, sums up my feelings about this. "Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." - Steve Jobs. I believe that I have the innovation necessary to lead my peers.

Q15. What do you admire the most in your peers? I like people who aren't afraid to make fun of themselves. Humor is a trait that is universal.

Q16. You are stranded on a Class M planet that has not been mapped by The Federation. You are only allowed to choose two of the following items to keep with you: a phaser, a tricorder or a communicator. Which two would you choose to have? I would have to say the phaser and the tricorder. They would sure make it a lot easier to fend off hostile aliens, and find food. Of course I would hope that I was important enough to the crew that they would be able to find me even without the communicator.

Q17. Please describe your understanding of the Federation’s Prime Directive. Basically, it is no interference in a still developing civilization. The number one rule. But like they say, rules are made to be broken. If a planet's society will perish due to something that we can fix, say a disease we can cure, I believe we have an obligation to disregard the Prime Directive and help them.

Q18. The United Federation of Planets includes more than 150 member planets, and the galaxy has many more besides. Which planet do you most want to visit? I love a fic written by Keira Marcos where Kirk is a Betazoid, and it instantly made me want to visit Betazed, if only to attend one of their weddings. But really, I would love to visit them all. I wish we had that diverse of life here in our galaxy that we could visit.

KOBAYASHI MARU:

The following questions describe situations you may commonly find yourself in as a member of Starfleet. You will be read the scenario, and then given two options to choose from. You may expand upon the reasons for your choice, but you must indicate one of the two that you feel best describes your likely response to the situation provided.

Q19. Service in the Fleet can be draining at the best of times, and on one particular day everything seems to have gone wrong. You’re exhausted, but your shift is finally over and it’s time to unwind. Your roommate is already on their bed when you get back to your quarters. Do you:

a. Settle in for a lengthy chat with them - you’d really like to vent about your day and you’d quite like to hear about theirs too. It’s a bit of a ritual by this point anyway. Maybe you’ll even head out to the Rec Hall together to unwind over a card game with the others.

I am such a people person. I like being with others, and I get along very well with them. Also, I would want my roommate to feel comfortable with me, so that they can feel free to approach me.

Q20. You’ve intercepted what sounds like a pretty important transmission - you feel like the Captain needs to know. When you report, do you:

a. Give them all the facts: what it said, what the voice sounded like, where the inflection was, the language it was in, and so on. Details and facts are the important part, everything else is subjective.

I feel that it is my job to give the captain all of the facts and details so that they can make an informed decision in order to ensure the wellbeing of our ship and crew.

Q21. There are many decisions to be made in Starfleet, and some are harder than others. Faced with a decision where things could go wrong in any number of ways, do you:

b. Try to understand the perspectives of the people involved. They are the ones that will be influenced by the decision, and conflict is the least desirable outcome. Be certain to be tactful, even if some of the message is lost in the communication.

I think the personal perspectives of the people involved make all the difference in difficult situations. If their are the ones that have to live with it, then I should take all factors into consideration.

Q22. The day-to-day life of Starfleet can be quite arduous at times, and quite exciting at others. Everyone has their own way of approaching everyday work, but would others see your approach as:

a. Planned and orderly. You seem to prefer to have decisions made and matters settled, rather than hanging over your head. You appear comfortable when in control over such matters. You seem to be task-oriented, and plan ahead.

I like to have all of my ducks in a row. It makes completing tasks and moving on much easier if everything is already planned out.

Q23. You can earn 5 points for your future Track by promoting the community in your Journal. Please link the post here if you wish to do so:
