F.A.Q.

You'll find answers to common questions in this post. As time goes on, this may change to accomodate new questions or concerns, so please check back periodically! Also, feel free to leave any questions you have for us here!

What types of characters are allowed?
Currently accepting any characters from anime, manga, novels, TV shows, movies, and video games. We aren't taking applications for original characters at this time.

What about species of character? Or what if they are a youkai?
We'd probably have to judge that upon hearing more about the character, and knowing more about their species. If they're a youkai, well, it may be confusing for other players, but we won't ban it. Perhaps their job in capturing the wild youkai would be a little more unique. Negotiating, perhaps?

What if my character is EVIL and wants to HELP the youkai?!
Good question! ...We'll get back to you on that.

Us modly mods have decided that this is acceptable! We can always create teams of both sides, and maybe these characters live on the darker side of town, in the alleys or something. Or maybe you want to stick them on the good side anyway, give a false sense of security - it's your call. We may also arrange it to where your character fights alongside the youkai, battling against the "good guys." If you have more questions about this, please do ask!

How many characters can I app?
For the time being, we're only allowing three characters per person, and only two per canon.

Do apps ever close?
They do. Applications will be open the last Monday of every month and will close that Saturday in preparation for the following Monday's event. Applications will also close once we reach a certain number of characters, usually an even number, to make sorting your characters into teams easier for the moderators.

When are events?
Events will begin on the first Monday of each month. They'll last for two weeks, giving one week as a break and one week for applications. The dates for each event will be posted on the actual event announcement to ease confusion since Kate is calendar-challenged for the most part.

How do the events work?
When each event rolls around, your characters' team will be assigned to a specific youkai to capture. Using the tools your character has been given in conjunction with their own abilities, they will work as a group to tackle their assigned monster. When it has been defeated, it will revert back into its page form, which will then be put into the youkai folder, automatically transporting it to the Shinto priest.

What happens if we don't beat our assigned monster?
If your team fails to capture the youkai in the allotted time given, it will be released into the living world - this could be modern day Japan where they came from, or even your character's world. This is bad, obviously, and your team will be penalized. Your characters will lose one of their canon skills for the entirety of the upcoming event, putting them at a disadvantage for that month.

What skills will my character lose if my team doesn't succeed?
It's up to you! Preferably something that is rather significant, whether it be that they forget how to use a certain weapon that they normally wield, they lose their healing capabilities (in the case of a healing practitioner), or they lose one of their special abilities.

Can my character die?
They can. Some of the youkai your characters will be put against will be very strong and dangerous. If your character dies, they will be directed over to King Enma, who will pass his judgment onto them and decide whether they return to help their teammates or stay with him doing various tasks that he's too lazy to perform on his own, such as cleaning this and that, or doing excess paperwork.

But my character’s immortal!
Not anymore. The spirit world works differently here. Yes, their souls are forever, but in the spirit world, they directly take the wear and tear - not their physical bodies. This is why your character, when they “die,” undergoes an effect when they come back, such as losing an ability or maybe their left arm is completely useless for a week or two.

Is back-logging acceptable?
Sure! We totally understand that life gets in the way, so if you need to do some back-logging for events or what have you, just let one of the mods know ahead of time so that we can make arrangements for you.

How should I tag my entries?
If you're the creator of the post, tag it "*series: character name" If you are commenting on a post, then, "series: character name". Example: Ryotaro Dojima makes a post, and Yuuko comments. The tags for the post would be *persona 4: ryotaro dojima, xxxholic: yuuko ichihara. If your tag is too long, feel free to abbreviate it to save room, or cut down the character name to their first name. Only mod posts will start tags with an exclamation mark; for announcements, events, etc.

Do you need any more mods?
Not right now! We're quite capable of handling everything between the three of us for the time being.

Who are the NPCs?
There are a few whom you'll be seeing periodically throughout the game. The kitsune, the tanuki, the Shinto priest, and King Enma will all be the most significant. See their post here for more information.

Can I be a youkai/monster/NPC?
We're currently not looking for anyone to play these roles right now.

Also... Why is there all this human stuff here? Why do the spirits need it?
Well... They don't. Perhaps they knew all along humans and other species alike would come to live in this town.
