I just know that I'll get yelled at..

Last time we did an inventory count here, we got our knuckles rapped for approving the discrepencies ourselves. Our boss in Houston was pissed and grumbled at both of us.

1. Just because my name is on the report does not mean that I approved it. The only reason my name is on the report is because Mo could not create or read that report to save his life. He sat next to me while I entered the information, the information that he collected no less, and then said to go ahead and close it. If I was responsible for everything that goes out of here with my name on it, I might as well be running the fucking place.

2. I'm not dumb. I get yelled at once, I don't do it again.

We did a count on Friday of last week. There were discrepencies. I sent an email to the boss man so he could approve them and close the reports. It is now Thursday, 2:15, and nothing has been done. Fine. Maybe he's checking the information on his side. Maybe he is doing inquiries. Who knows. Send me an email or something so I don't sit here wondering what's happening. Meanwhile, everything is frozen as the counting freezes the inventory. This means that there is a pile of paperwork on both mine and Mo's desks waiting to be entered manually once this count is approved. And the piles are growing. Sooner or later, we'll get emails asking why things aren't being invoiced. Then what? Blame the bossman for not approving the count, which means we can't process the orders? I think not. So no matter what we do, we'll get yelled at.

I love my job. I like that I get to travel once in a while and have friends all over the world now. I'm just not sure how much more of this bureacratic shit I can take. Yes, I know that shit rolls downhill, but fuck that. I have the lowest title but don't do the work of someone at the bottom rung of the company, though that's the pay scale I'm on. So why does all the shit get put on my lap? Why am I the one that is supposed to fix everything? Yes, I know how to. Yes I *can* do it, but why should I? It's not part of my job description, the description that tells the company how much money I should be making, so why do it? I do it because I know they want team players. I do it because playing their game means that I'll probably get Mo's title and pay when he leaves. Our appraisals are coming around again, and I do intend to let them know exactly what I do around here and that I expect to get a decent raise to match. It's only fair, no?

I'm lucky though. People like Deb paved the way for me in the company. One of the first women to take the job as Branch Manager. And I know that she would have been in my corner when the time came for me to do the same. Now I just hope that Trev, Mo, Casey, Ed and the rest of the guys will go to bat for me when the time comes. The boss man in Houston knows what I do here. He knows that I'm the one to go to when there is something wonky that needs to be fixed. He said so in front of all the managers in a meeting in Houston. But still, Mo has the job... the car... the pay... and still has the balls to complain that his new company car does not have a CD player. *grumbles*

What do I do? Do I start looking elsewhere? With my non-existant schooling? Do I hope that 8 years with this company is enough to get me a job somewhere else? Or do I stick it out and hope that I get the promotion and get to keep working with the people I like? 5 more years? Hope that they don't bring someone with a penis in (as this business is very much male-oriented) to be my boss? Hope that, as it happened with Trevor and Garry, I don't have to teach someone the ropes while they are already making more money than me?
