100 Things: TV Episodes I Love (Day 22)

Aug 05, 2012 20:30

I'll bet you guys forgot about this; I nearly did. But here we are, underway again. And, since this happens to be the episode I'm watching right now, I want to talk about it.

The Rashomon Job is one of those episodes that improves on re-watch, in my opinion. It plays with the inconsistencies of memory, and the unreliable narrator. It's clever, and it plays on the team's individual strengths while highlighting why it's so important for them to have someone like Nate to be the mastermind. It's a little jarring the first time you watch it to see the characters we know played by different actors, but that's just the point: they don't know each other yet, so all they see is a general stereotype--the African in a tux, the surgeon in glasses, the blonde waitress. Plus the intersection of all the stories is hilarious. I love this episode.
