Lately it feels like I am just marking time waiting for late in December after Christmas to move to Las Vegas and in time move in with Brandy. We are still not settled on a place to live in together yet, mostly because my definition of what is a safe place to live and hers I think are very different. Brandy grew up in south central LA, which I have been told is a very violent place. She grew up around and semi-involved with gangs such as the Mexican Mob and her older brother is in the Crips. Where she initially proposed we share an apartment turned out to be a very tense place to live and I shied away from it. We are still trying to find a place that is reasonably safe and quiet yet is not astronomically priced. She sent me a new picture three weeks ago, it's the first one I have gotten from her in almost a year and boy has she changed. She is wearing her hair now in cornrows tight to her scalp, in all her other pictures she had lovely long dark hair.
I received an unexpected call from a total stranger named Nick Van Loon, a bachelor who is 59 yrs old and lives in Wisconsin, he called me to warn me that Brandy was cheating on me with no less than 7 other men all of which thought as I do that she wanted to marry them he claimed he got this information from a former friend of Brandy's who did not want to see me hurt and she wrote him and asked him to call me and warn me but not to reveal her name. The news sounded ridiculous I mean she and I have been in contact now for nearly two years, thats a long time to run a scam just for kicks, I have been out there with her twice in that time for a week to ten days each time and saw no indication that she was anything but what she appeared to be. What I initially found unsettling was how this mystery woman had gotten my phone number to pass on to Nick since it is unlisted and unpublished? I am often told I wear my heart on my sleeve a phrase that seems to indicate that I don't have a poker face and can't hide my emotions. Well in this case it would seem to be true, because Brandy called me about a week after this Nick did and though I had no intention of speaking about his call, she very quickly came to know that I was hiding something and in short order had puzzled most of it out, at which point I gave up and told her about the disturbing phone call from the strange man. Brandy reacted to it in just the way I figured she would, she went ballistic and I spent most of the rest of the call trying to calm her down and reassure her that this accusation meant nothing to me, that I still loved her and still wanted to be with her and that I was still coming out in December to live with her as we had planned. Brandy had calmed back down and had promised me not to seek out the offender and hurt her, which was her first impulse and told me she would call again that coming Sunday. I have sadly not heard from her since, it has been 20 days and I am starting to wonder why she has not called. My first thought is she attacked the woman that was behind the call and is in some kind of legal trouble. Otherwise I cannot understand why she stopped calling.
Because I had been planning this cross country trip to relocate, I have not been actively looking for a job, yes I have been going through the motions to keep unemployment happy, but my heart wasn't in it because I was planning on going to Vegas. I had contacted headhunters out there, but they said they could not help me until after I was in the area which is still 40 plus days away. The rest of my time I have been trying to work out the logistics of keeping my house out here for the 6 months I will be living in Nevada, and affording the move. I have a roommate and his rent will cover about half the expenses, but the other half I have to come up with in advance and this is a financial burden that being unemployed is making hard to do. There are several tech jobs that the casinos out there employ and I am hoping I can land one of them once I am out there. One requires the attendance of a 6 week school, but I am told the school is free if the casino accepts you as an employee, it is a "Slot Technician School" and with 15 years as a tech out here in my resume, I should have a decent chance at landing a position in it. I am also contacting the two social organizations that I have longstanding memberships in so that I will have some safe places to go and meet new people and hopefully make new friends, namely the Masons and the Elks. I also plan on contacting the local Quaker group that meets in Las Vegas.
