(posting these all at once, as I whent off on a tangent last time and don't want to clog up peoples friends pages.
Wednesday (day thre).
Kata today was Chintei. This is one that I've almost learnt many times, so going through it in detail (and when I mean detail, I mean bunkai (application) for about half the kata) was good.I think I actually remember this now.
We were warned that today was the hardest day, as it's when you feel the most sore. They were correct. Ow. Fortunately there wasn't any additional training classes that day (Unless you were grading for black bet or above that year, there were special classes for that), just the two sessions.
There was a lecture between the two sessions. The first was on the sholin monks covering how and why martial arts developed there. Apparently it's the origin of most (oriental) martial arts. That was by the same person who did the bo training.
The second was by a guy I've seen around a lot helping at gradings. I think he may be one of the senior judges. That was on the biology of pain. After that two of the senseis managed to get into stories of 'painful things they have done'. One of the senseis was the only one I'd never trained with before the week. By the end of it, I'd figured out that, when mixed with the others he becomes a catalyst for 'stories/anecdotes/bickering/long discussions'. It was awesome.
Ended up going for a long walk along the sea front that evening, which was really nice. This was the one day where the weather really help out. However, I got back from the walk to find that the people I was sharing a caravan with had been back and gone again. When they did come back I found out that the person with the black toenail had injured her other foot. They'd gone to the for hospital for x-rays. Nothing broken, but sadly that was the end of training for her that week.
Thursday.
Kata: Tekki Sandan
Another kata that I almost knew, so hopefully I should remember that.
I did indeed feel much better today. The worst of the stiffness was gone and I had more energy than expected. There was a kata competition in the evening, which I decided to enter. I've never entered one in this association (and only one in the last, and it wasn't a 'real' one). I got through the first round (Empi) and the person who knocked me out in the second round was the one who one it (and she was very good) so I was reasonably pleased with that.
I wasn't originally going to enter, but one of the senseis said that we should all do it, if nothing else because the nervousness you deal with is good practice for what you'd feel in a real fight situation.
At some point during this day, the other of the two people I was sharing with also hurt her foot. I notice a theme here.
Also, I was witness to one of the most violent fight I have ever seen. It was between two ducks.
Friday.
Only one training session today, then everyone either heads off or stays for the grading. The training covered some partner work and a run through of all the katas from the week. At the end there were some more stories (started by the same sensei as before) and we all got certificates.
During the training session, one woman kicked we, perhaps a bit to hard, in the back and doubled over in pain. Turns out she's strained that ankle earlier in the week. The foot injury fairy strikes again.
As we were leaving, two ducks waddled between our caravan and the one that one of the senseis was using next door. He went and got some bread for them. So my final memory of the week was of one of the top senseis in the country trying, unsuccessfully, to feed two ducks.
After that I managed to catch a tran home earlier than expected
At home.
So, That foot injury theme? And that bruise I had? I think I may have actually dislocated my toe.
I don't think it's still out, as I can't feel a gap or get it to reduce, but I seem to have damaged it so it can dislocate it's self really easily. Basically, if I pull it in one direction it gets to the point most toes do then clicks out of place somehow. It ends up about 90° from my foot. Doesn't really hurt now. Didn't even hurt noticeably when I did it (way back on Monday). I'll show it to my sensei on Tuesday and see what he says.
In the meantime, I have this neat new party trick.
