More figure skating (shallow) comments.

I'd never have thought about Muse as skating music, but the two (two! are Muse suddenly popular or what?!) couples who danced on Ruled by Secrecy and Butterflies and Hurricanes pulled it off pretty well. I felt like I had to root for them for using this music, just like for those who used Jesus Christ Superstar. ;) Speaking of them, by the way, I am a total mundane, but I felt like they were seriously noted too low. I hope they didn't have to pay for Israel's politics...

I did like Anna Cappellini and her partner, despite not being much into romantic music and stuff. Maybe because she looked a bit River Tam-ish, so I had a sort of instant sympathy. :D

The reason I like figure skating, especially the dance competition, is because I like the stories they tell. This is also why I often end up being bored by the winners, who present the classical stuff that seems to be the way to the judges' hearts. (You know it - sober costumes, symphonic music, srs bsns.) Sure the way they tell the stories (the elegance on ice) is important, but I'm not likely to notice any kind of technical detail. If I notice it, it's already a big blunder, which also takes away from the artistic presentation.

As for the ladies, congrats Finland! I thought it was fair, unlike in some years when the host country would surprisingly win. But I don't get what's so praise-worthy about Carolina Kostner, her skating booores me and it's always with fear that I watch her attempt jumps. (Maybe because I still remember her early years, when she fell two or three times per program?) But she still lacks spark, vital energy. I miss Sarah Meier. :(
