i still feel like i am on a boat

May 10, 2009 22:55

back from the short get-away trip to the kelong with 11 people. it was really great to be out of touch with the world for three days.
Out on a tiny island, 4 hours away from singapore. Boat. Van. Boat. All the way in.

NOTHING TO DISTRACT. no facebook. no twitter. no emails.

Fish fish fish. the locals are experts in this. we didn't have enough rods so we used just the plain old reels and fish expert dude caught us enough fish for dinner. I was next to him and i caught nothing. all i did was feed the fishes who ate my bait and RAN away with it.

Catch squids. Rather, THE LOCALS caught them. we just stared and observed and touch. bio lesson anyone?
Awesome creatures. awesome and disgusting at the same time.

Try to grab the fishes and get the fishing hooks off them. (haha)
Cringe at the gruesomeness of it when their heads and mouths get ripped off when it gets caught in the hook. (this sounds gross but i have to mention this. haha)

Tan. Swim. Frisbee. Kelong hopping.
Worship under the stars and ever so brilliant shinning moon (this is becoming a hot favourite)
Be still and enjoy the silence. hear the waves.

Bridge. (this was excellent crazy card playing from daryl, marcus and liz.)
Crazyyyyyyyyy bidding:
1 heart. pass. 2 spades. pass.
pass. 3 diamonds. 3spades. 4 clubs. (HUH!?!!!!!)
it went on until 5 spades.

somehow that bridge game was the best game i've had.

Mini mahjong.
Jungle speed.
Read.
Guitar.
Sing.
Laze around.
Sunrise.

Everything was wooden and so different. Electricity that offs at 11pm. kerosene lamps. everything seemed so new and refreshing.
to wake up with fresh air blowing directly into the room and onto your face is amazing.
perfect time spent together although some of them were really high in energy while i was totally on the low side, wanting to just sit and do nothing but take in the sea, wind and sun.

THE FOOD WAS FRESH SEAFOOD. every single day.
Crabs. Gong Gong. prawns. sotong. fish. Repeat.
wholesome goodness. i ate so many crabs. (more seafood tomorrow for mother's day dinner)
i ate so much sotong too that i think i am no longer allergic to it. hurhur.

and now i am back!
