Operation R.O.C.K. Rolls into Afganistan!
Wendy Daniels Visits Kandahar with the
Team Canada Thanksgiving Tour
OTTAWA, October 11, 2010 Virgin Radio’s Wendy Daniels is in Kandahar, Afghanistan as part of the Team Canada Thanksgiving Tour, a morale and welfare program organized by the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces to energize deployed Canadian Forces personnel.
Following a Tim Horton’s coffee break to kick things off, Daniels will spend four days on the ground interacting with the troops on the Canadian Forces base in Kandahar, sharing meals and emceeing a series of concerts and events including a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) demonstration and performances by Toronto’s Crash Karma (ex- members of Tea Party, Our Lady Peace and I Mother Earth) and Ricky Paquette from Ottawa-Gatineau.
Others who made the trip include former NHL great Guy Lafleur and actor Paul Gross along with Team Canada Manager, Louise Desroches, who has organized the concert tours for the past five years.
“We appreciate that Wendy and the rest of the team have volunteered their time and agreed to participate in the program”, says Desroches. “It is a difficult and sometimes dangerous venture, but to bring a small piece of Canada to our troops makes a world of difference and is a big morale booster”.
Ottawa’s VIRGIN 106.9 and ‘Wicked’ Wendy Daniels will be broadcasting live, to and from Afghanistan, on Canadian Armed Forces Radio. Listen for regular updates and long distance requests from our troops. And don’t miss a special ‘Kandahar Edition’ of the Rock ‘N Roll Face-off, weekday mornings at 10:30.
