I swear if I see one more idiot going on about how we're all going to die from the Large Hadron Collider I'm going to have to smack a bitch. "Oh noes! It might create black holes that would suck up the Earth!" It is possible that it might create some microscopic black holes, but no, they won't kill us. Black holes that tiny will evaporate within a few thousandths of a second.

Much like windmills, BLACK HOLES DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!

Virtual particles carry away energy, and thus mass from a black hole, thus shrinking it. It's amazing how many people will talk about E=mc^2 without having any idea what the equation means, or even what all the letters stand for.
