Ego-tripping gets old. Working hard at things you actually enjoy doesn't -- sounds like you have that with your kids.

I do have that with my kids. Thanks. :) Thing is, I'm aware that my kids will not always be my focus (their future teenage selves hope, anyway). I guess I could just cross that bridge when I come to it.

If you're lucky, your kids will get pregnant as teenagers and then the grandkids can fill the void in your life.

You're far more disciplined than I am, I think, to do all that self-study. I'm afraid I need the enforced rigor of school to stay on task for long, otherwise the autodidact light kind of fizzles out after a few weeks on a particular topic.

Girl, you have NOTHING to regret. Look around you, at those wonderful, amazing children. Look at the life you've made for yourself. Your adoring husband, the ability to watch your kids grow during the most IMPORTANT time in their life.

And chica, my sis ain't got it all figured out. You know what I've realized? I so don't want to be her. Being her isn't where it's at. It's being me. And it's being you. Because we both have a lot of stuff she'll only dream of having. She is a very non-emotional, non-feely type of person. Her life has been planned every step of the way, and she has followed that plan. But, you know why, I think? Because of fear. She had to control every little thing so that she could have everything look good from the outside. And it does ( ... )
