Today was not an extraordinary day by any means, and yet, I feel very content. A lot of things were frakked up today, actually.
I missed my Theater tutorial (a discussion section) class last week because visiting students were given the wrong information. Sure enough, we were given the wrong information again this week. Now I have two to make up. Strange thing: I'm much more laid back about it here than I would be at UCR. Dublin exudes a laid back attitude. I think they have it down better than Southern Californians.
I didn't get half the things done today that I wanted to do - reading, errands, registering for my visa with the Gaurda etc. etc. And today still rocked. I'm in a fantastic mood.
Reasons why today rocks:
I'm making plans to go to London for Friday and Saturday to see Rufus Sewell star in Tom Stoppard's new play "Rock N' Roll". Should be freaking amazing.
I cooked dinner for a friend and I tonight - the same one I'm going to London with. I love sharing food with people. We listened to music, made plans for the weekend and enjoyed our home cooked meal.
Today was the first day I realized I LOVED my classes. I've liked them so far, but the lecturer in my Romance class was amazing today. We're reading Malory's Morte Arthur, and he had some really interesting insights about the evolution of Arthurian legend.
I got fabulous e-mails from three people that completely made my day because I'm happy for my friends' happiness.
My Gaelic class is incredible, and I'm doing okay with the language so far with an occasional speed bump in my pronunciation.
Reasons why this weekend rocked:
I met some awesome Americans who love all the same shows and films I do. We're going to watch Battlestar Galactica together. It'll be beautiful.
I partied with other English nerds at the Literary Society and had a ball. They were all very amiable and super friendly to newbies instead of crowding together in their own cliques.
Sunday Night Dinner was a blast. Shannon's boyfriend's friend busted out his guitar and played raucous and lively Irish tunes that all of us sang along to. THIS is how I picture Ireland. Friends gathered around, laughing, drinking, singing. It was amazing.
Overall...
I feel better about being here. I'm drawing and doodling like I've never done before. I'm using a completely different style and it rocks! I'm inspired to write again. I've taken up Fencing and I'm thinking about writing for the Literary magazine and the college newspaper.
I'm in Ireland.
Like I said, life is spiffy.
