Teaching the Bible in Texas Public Schools

I have posted here twice before about the Texas legislature's decision to make it mandatory for the public schools to teach the Bible as literature. I think the fact that the teachers aren't getting any training on how to teach the bible is the saddest part of all of this. There isn't even any semblance of trying to make this a matter of the literary value of a piece of text.

Our great state at work and failing at it. I have to agree with what cathubodva said. If proper training isn't given, how can the state expect teachers to have any idea what they are doing? Or that they aren't using it as a pulpit for personal beliefs and one sided interpretations?

I would be for this is the state had any clue how to establish and implement its use, only as an elective offering.

I've seen this way too many times (in several countries)...some great geniuses upstairs seem to have a lot of fun shuffling around the education system, with absolutely no forethought and planning going into it. And it's the kids down here who have to pay in the end.
