So yesterday, my father received the hearing aides that we finally convinced him to get tested for and get. It was getting to the point where I could not be on the same floor of our house when he watched TV, because it would make my ears ring, and eventually, actually. physically. HURT. I didn't know that was possible. The constant headaches apparently had a source, imagine that. @__@
I dunno, I knew this was either a sign or the end of all things when he set up the eight-speaker system so that the two biggest speakers were within, no joke, three feet of the couch. Common sense anyone?
But! Onto the nice things. Regardless of the cause, he now has hearing aides. And that very day, he became more talkative, more friendly, and he's smiled more in the last two days, genuinely, than I can remember seeing in a very long time. (It was normally about once a day if it wasn't a "perpetual scowl" day.) It really is so much of a difference that I thought I'd write it down to remember and commemorate it. I was afraid that he was going to be very mean and disgruntled because of the shame of having to wear them, but apparently he got over that in about the year up to now (in which he was disgruntled about the prospect of getting tested and not okay with it), and he's got nothing of the sort now. He actually talks about them like a "cool little gadget of his".
My father is happier than I've seen him in a very long time and I am so glad. :)
