Finally an update...

I know I promised an update 'soon' but it's been something of a crazy week. I'll start with a Uni update just now and I'll explain the crazy in my next entry.....

The course has been going quite well so far, although it's bloody hard work. I had some initial worries that I'd made the wrong choice in starting it but I soon realised that it was just a reaction to our first class visit to an archive (we went for a tour of the Glasgow City Council archive and it was incredibly dull and disheartening). I think the lesson there was that I don't want to work in a local authority archive. I've since been finding the lectures and theory all very interesting. Absolutely tons of reading though and mostly discussion based learning. A bit of a change from just a good old lecture.

I've also handed in my first piece of work already, after only 4 classes for that subject. A nice little essay was completed and handed in last Friday. I'm not entirely convinced that it was what they were looking for, but for the first time in my life I could actually stand to re-read it so it can't be all that bad.

Hmmmm, anything else course related? Ah yes, turns out my Mum was nursing someone who works as an Archivist for Glasgow Museums and Galleries so I now have a contact for setting up some work experience once classes finish in the spring. This is most definitely the kind of area I'd like to work in (either Museums/Galleries or a film archive) so I'm loving coincidence at the moment.

All in all I think it's going quite well. I'm enjoying a break from classes at the moment as the full-time students are all off on work placements at the moment (I get that joy in my second year as it's part of a course I take then). It's giving me a little extra time to get started on my second essay and a presentation I have to do in a week on 'Data Protection in the USA and Canada' (if anyone knows anything about this subject I'd be glad to hear your input.....).

Anyhoo, I'd better go back to looking like I'm working. I'll be back later with more......
