So as some (or just one) of you know, I'm finally doing this... thing... called "Servicio Social." It's a mandatory thing all college students have to do in order to graduate (it's in the Constitution!). I don't really know how to translate it. I normally say it's "Social Service." It's kind of like a mix between an un/payed internship and community service. I could probably call it "internity service"(?). Anyway, it can go from making copies at the school's principal's office, to helping disabled kids, to assisting a professor on a research, to doing something that actually is relevant to your major and future career. And you have to do that thing (whatever it is) for a total of 480 hours.
But why is that of any relevance to my life? Well, as most of you must know, I'm leaving to Vancouver in July, so I have to be done with this thing during the first couple of weeks of June if I want to graduate. That means I have to be there for at least 5 hours a day (I actually think I'm gonna take it to the max a couple of weeks and be there for 6 hours so I can finish earlier), which leaves me with no energy left when I come home. Who would have known that sitting idly next to a knitting woman (who I think might be a hoarder) would be so tiresome? Man, I miss the gym so much... It's not too bad tho, my boss/teacher is really cool and she lets me come in as soon as I'm done with classes so I get to work as much as possible. We already had our first argument tho. It mostly stemmed out of the fact that I can't take constant negative remarks too well :P (as in, you can tell me I did wrong once, but I start getting annoyed by the 11th time :P). Haha, one of my classmates said "Julieta has so much to learn, and so does the the teacher. How will they work it out?" I'm glad she said it, because now I can now focus on taking it with humor (because I know my teacher is not mean-spirited).
I'm also very lucky that my literature teacher agreed to letting me take his class online, so now I can get to my "internity service" earlier, leaving me more free time during the afternoons, resulting in gym time! Of course, I know this will leave me in a near vegetative state, so I decided that instead of taking 7:00 pm naps, or trying futililly to stay awake, I will watch movies! :D I came up with this plan because the Oscars and the Independent Spirit Awards (to be hosted by Joel McHale) are next month, and seeing how much I hate NOT having anyone to root for during Award Ceremonies (and the movie distributors didn't think it would be important to bring their movies to Mexico this year), I decided to compile the following list of must-see movies before February 26:
- Greenberg
- Cyrus
- Never Let Me Go
- Black Swan
- The Kids Are Alright
- The King's Speech
- The Fighter
- The Social Network
- Winter's Bone
- Blue Valentine
- Biutiful
- True Gritt
- Rabbit Hole
- Dogtooth
I'm not starting tomorrow with that list tho... I still need to fill my brain with some shit, so I'll be watching Love and Other Drugs first (shut up, I have a crush on Anne Hathaway).
I hope I manage to watch all of that. Afterwards, I think I'll get on to watching other backlogged movies and shows. I don't know when I'm gonna draw, but I know that if you're too tired to lift a pencil, nothing good's gonna come out anyway (excuses).
Sorry about the long post. TIME FOR BED NOW! :D
P.S. Did I mention I saw "Waiting for Superman"? Extremly OVERRATED "documentary." Don't waste your time on it. It's more "WILL SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?" and less FACT. I also saw "Easy A." That was pretty bad. I don't know why I expected something better. I don't think it would have been this annoying if the whole cast hadn't been so terrible.
