Photos from my trip:
http://www.sinical.net/cpg/thumbnails.php?album=26 I didn't take many pictures of myself, because then again I always look like this:
Bands I saw at WGT this year:
Das Ich
Unheilig
Blutengel
Reaper
Noisuf-X
Miss Construction
Spetsnaz
Necessary Response
I would have seen more but I find that I can't stand crowds for extended periods of time. I saw all the ones that I wanted to see, so yay \m/.
Wednesday, May 7th 2008:
Arrived in the Netherlands, subsequently caught the train to Berlin (almost missed it when we transferred, but
djtotentanz and I have teh sk1lz and we caught it.
Slept a ton on the train ride and 6 hours later we arrived in Berlin. We only spent a night in Berlin, as our original plan was to stay in Amsterdam for a night and THEN train it over to Leipzig, but because of the tulip season we were filibustered with ridiculous hotel room rates and so to make things easier we went to Berlin. We walked around, I showed her Alexanderplatz where Ali, Jon and I were last year and ate some Döner kebab. It was night time, but we saw the Reichstag (which I had never seen before, wtf) and the Brandenburg Tor lit up at night. Then we watched German phone sex commercials all night before waking up to go to Wave-Gothik-Treffen.
Thursday, May 8 2008:
Took the short train ride to Leipzig and then hauled ass to the Mariott where we were happy to drop off our luggage. We got tickets, I went shopping around the Hauptbahnhof and then we went to the pre-party at the Agra 4.2 to see our friend Mighty Mike Saga DJ! Mind you, it was the pre-party so I showed up in my ghetto fabulous attire -- apple bottom jeans and all. I do admit I did feel a bit socially awkward, but I got over it. Later we met a hot dutch girl, and some crazy Slovakians.
- I also made 11 euros from returning empty cups -- BWAHAHA.
Friday, May 9 2008:
- Discovered the magics of the alcohol fruit bowls
- Watched Das Ich -- Which I had only seen once when I was 17 and this show was a lot more monumental because both of the keyboard players were on vintage industrial looking platforms that moved across the stage.
- Watched Unheilig
- Watched Blutengel
zOMG, Blutengel, I mean I believe the phrase I used to describe it was amazingly awful and awfully amazing at the same time. I knew it was going to be a bit sp00ky, but I had no idea. The visuals on the screen behind them at the Agra were beautiful, the women could actually sing, there were pyrotechnics, AND the finale involved a burst of glitter through the air. The new girl in Blutengel sounds like she has some serious vocalist training, so it was def. one of the most amazing shows I have seen in my time.
I also bought yet another corset (blue chinese brocade with silver dragons) and a sp00ky skirt from Aderlass, that's all I really bought at Treffen this year. My fashion styles have changed, but that vending area at WGT is the mecha of all that is considered the holy grail of gothics fashions.
- Also, BaconZeit @ 6:30 AM.
Saturday, May 10 2008:
- Watched Reaper
It was a great show!!
- I caught Feindflug checking out my ass.. LOL
- Didn't see Hocico, there were about 8000 people in the Agra and I wasn't in the mood. I heard the show was really cool though, it involved Mayan blood rituals and the such. I saw Hocico 4 times in 2002 so I wasn't about to risk heatstroke and claustrophobia. It sounded amazing though from outside.
Sunday, May 11 2008:
- Noisuf-X @ Werk II
Mmmm.
- Club Hopping:
Since Leipzig is such a small city and the major mode of transportation is the Strassenbahn, I did a bit of club hopping. First I went to the Agra 4.2 to see DJ Andy from Melotron, then I went to the Werk II to see the guy from :SITD: DJ, and then I went back to the Agra 4.2 and ran into Erk from Hocico, and then I went to the
Moritzbastei to see the guy from Straftanz DJ, and then Daniel Myer was DJing and he was playing the Prodigy -- which is always LOL.
Only in Germany right? This was all in one night.
Monday, May 12 2008:
- Went to the Kohlrabizirkus and saw Miss Construction
It was only really worth it to see "Hass und Lieb" by ECO covered.
- Saw like 5 minutes of Spetsnaz.
- Then I went to the Moritzbastei to see Necessary Response in lieu of Nachtmahr. I would have loved to see Nachtmahr, but I have known Daniel since we were both 18 and I wanted to see him perform since I missed it so many times in America. The show was really great and it envoked a lot of contemplation on my end, and at that point as much as I love 0000ntz I was ready for something a bit more emotional and I got it.
- I learned that if you're dressed sexy and you walk down the streets of Leipzig you're more than likely to get hit on. I got an ice cream after seeing Necessary Response and I was eating it and walking and some German guy was like "jaaaa mmm lecken und smecken [which translates into licking and tasting]" I was like WTF, and just replied "Ja. Genau" and kept walking. And then all these other dudes were like "Hallo" while I was walking back to the hotel.
- Alles war gut though, because on the way to the Moritzbastei we ran into Thomas from Nachtmahr/L'ame Immortelle and he was one of the friendliest people I have met in the scene. TBH, I was a bit quiet because I was like oMG OMG OMG because I love me some L'ame Immortelle.
All in all it's been a great WGT but I've realized that I don't have the party in me like I used to. I am getting older and getting ready to settle down, before my job I was able to go out all night and drink but these days I don't have much of the energy to do a festival like this.
It was a lot of fun, saw a lot of people that I normally don't get to see -- ironically all whom Nathan has done work for, and walked a ton, took a bunch of photos, ate some bomb ass food.
May 13 and May 14th 2008:
On Tuesday and Wednesday, and then went to the Netherlands for 2 days where I partook in activities which I will not mention in this LJ ;) I will say however that despite the stressful train ride from Berlin back to Schipol was stressful for a while, the view was GORGEOUS. Never before have I seen so many horses, cows, ponies, sheep and lambs, and the best was seeing a black stallion galloping free in a field.
This trip is very important to me because it signifies how far I've come since December and all of the things and losses that I have suffered. I wasn't sure if I would make it back up again, but I did, and I have to thank the wonderful people in my life and my change in a more Zen-like perspective. I don't want to go on a spiel about how mind over matter is a powerful entity, but I could be still stuck feeling miserable; but I keep going no matter how tough and hard it gets, that's what has made me strong.
There aren't obvious answers to what can make a person happy, for me it was looking at the beautiful Western German country side on my journey back to the Netherlands and thinking to myself, how many people my age have these opportunities? As a result of working hard? Not as many as there should be.
I miss Europe, but now that I am back -- I ask myself what will I have to look forward to in the near future?
* I will be turning 26 in July
* I have a few prospective DJ gigs as well as a mixed-audio cd to complete.
* Continuing my back treatments so I can go back to belly dance
* Furthering my career
* More C++ and OOP programming
