Now, let us for one minute ignore the fact that Bush is an idiot, attempting to polarize a country through fear and hatred in a pitiful attempt to win an election, and look at the constitutional ramifications of this amendment. First of all, the constitution is in place to protect basic rights, not limit them. Additionally, when the founders developed a system by which to amend the constitution, they did so with the intent that it would enable future generations to further limit the scope of government influence in public life. Not so the government could regulate public life. Especially not so they could regulate private life. What can I say, this story made me sick. Nevermind the fact that Bush said several weeks ago he believed it was not his place to get involved and that the issue of gay marriage shouls remain a state issue. Ugh! Can we please just elect a new President and be done with this madness??
