I really think my brain is mush

Alison and I went to Portland for the weekend. I LOVE that city. We kept a running tally of the reasons we like Portland.

What I like about Portland:

The train station. It's beautiful. Not like Seattle's King Street Station, which is disgusting (a bit of research tells me that Seattle is buying the station and plans to restore it, thank GOD).

The Pearl District.

The transportation system

Powell's (they had the Irreverent Guide to Seattle/ Portland, which I couldn't find at any of the local Barnes and Noble stores).

PAM. Their collection and building and location etc etc is much more similar to other museums I enjoy such as MIA and AIC. I just about orgasmed in one modern gallery, which had an amazing pairing of Harry Bertoia "Dandelion" with Larry Poms "Tamy" and the arrangement was gorgeous from every angle, including the balcony from the floor above.

Their sculpture court was also very nice... a much more inviting entrance to the museum than SAM (I won't even mention the so named but unused (and uncomfortable) such space at the Henry).

We had some great beer (our hotel was 2 blocks from a McMenamins) and good shopping. Lots of laughs too... when asked if she knew of any good tapas places our waitress at a nearby bar thought I said "topless" and started to suggest a few places... that was awkward but I laughed for probably 5 minutes afterword.

The "Saturday" market was only okay, but I loved the Chinese garden. Didn't make it to the Rose garden, I hope to go back sometime this fall or winter to visit again.
