Dove has been doing this "campaign for real beauty" (you've probably seen some of the commercials on T.V.) Anyway, they have a movie up transforming a pretty (but fairly normal looking) model into a flawless billboard with the aid of both makeup and photo editing. It's worth a look.
http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com/ On one hand, I suppose the advancements in photo editing can allow women with nice features (hair, lips, etc) but not pristine skin to be models, but on the other hand, I think we all know how body shape is usually edited, sometimes to the extreme. The most disturbing part of this video is not the makeup (though I'd love to have someone do that for me!) but the complete distortion of the model's neck!
I don't really like magazines like Star and Us and People, because I think they invade privacy, but I do have to give them kudos for the "They're Just Like Us!" type spreads. Because, you'd think it was intuitive that these actors and singers and models are people who have many of the normal problems we all face, but because of makeup and photoshop... their "normal-ness" is hidden enough that it ISN'T intuitive.
I hate being able to see both sides :P
