Whilst it was refreshing to see a primarily British energy charity
comment about development of energy resources in Ethiopia, can't help but be amused at the omission of hydro-electric energy. The quoted DESERTEC initiative has been condemned by some as another "scramble for Africa II" analogous to the Berlin conference 1884; exporting energy to Europe whilst locals reminded powerless, literally.
Far more interesting (and controversial) is the development of the Grand Renaissance Dam which will have a significant impact upon both power capacity and
geo-politics throughout the region. The controversy is of course traced back to colonial agreements with Britain that the Egyptians claim are legitimate to this day!
