Read today about Croatian research scientists ability to win EU funds for their research, whereby it was also stated that the average success rate of research applications is about 20 %: on this basis 'energyresearcher' is on the road to becoming another failed academic!
Received news a couple of weeks ago about rejection of the final funding proposal submitted during the last twelve months (to be optimistic there is still a reply remaining to be received for one application made eight months ago), so with no prospect of a new project, have left South Africa to return to UK.
Although the weather is nice right now, the landscape for science research in UK remains depressingly unchanged (read: bleak) from last year. Have a simple choice: change career to something that is in demand in UK (unlikely, whatever that is); or leave again (bioenergy specialist research anyone???). Meanwhile, bills remain to be paid and sustenance provided...
