kolms title: because they'd already signed their names
genre: general
character(s): dumbledore's army
word count: 153
rating: pg
they shouldn’t be here, they shouldn’t be casting spells, dodging jinxes, killing. but they’d stayed put, opting to defend harry, their school, their liberty. neville half regrets continuing their club, their army, but seeing ginny perfect a shield charm, luna send her rabbit patronus at the oncoming dementors, ernie crash into a nameless death eater, he grins and returns to fighting dolohov, grunting as he nearly falls over a stray block of the castle.
they’re too young, but it’s too late to escape from the fighting. they had their chance to join the fleeing slytherins, but they'd rejected it. they'd rejected it long before harry returned, long before the year had started; because the moment they signed their name, they were dumbledore’s army, forever, and molly’s insistence that they should not be fighting, they were just children would not change that, even if they were, just kids in the eye of the storm.
title: you're no competition
genre: romance ;; angst
pairing(s): james x lily ;; onesided!sirius x lily
word count: 219
rating: g
you see the glances she throws at james when only you are looking; and you’re only looking because peter had just entered the hall, you try and convince yourself, but you still can’t take your eyes off of her, even as a ghost of a smile graces her face when james accidently stabs remus’ hand in his half-awake state.
you watch her leave, and james grabs a roll before following, dragging peter along with him.
remus keeps you behind, grabbing the hem of your robes before you can follow.
‘are you okay? you look a bit peaky, padfoot,’ he says.
‘peaky? peaky’s what you look like every month, and i know i- yeah i’m fine,’ you mutter when you see the glare he shoots you.
‘really.’ it’s not a question.
‘… okay, fine, i'm not, but i will be.’
you have to be okay, because even though she yells at him every time he’s within a 10 foot radius, she still takes more notice of james, for not doing a thing, than of you, always a step in front, wand raised at snivellus; because even though you talked to her first, she can barely keep the laughter escaping as he walks smack bang into the suit of armour.
he’s already claimed lily as his own, and you’re no competition.
title: something's holding her back
genre: angst
character(s): lavender
word count: 260
rating: pg
she can barely breathe, barely open her mouth to scream as he ravages her, tearing skin with sharp canines, a rough tongue sliding over the blood that pours out of her wounds.
when will it be over?
she hears the deep growls from him, resounding through her body as she tries in vain to push him away.
stars. is parvati with them?
a red flash blasts him off her, but she still can’t take a breath, her throat hoarse and rough. someone’s patting her, laying something over her, something soft.
‘stay awake, lavender, stay with me.’
the voice is loud, too loud, and she can barely make out the blurry outline of someone; it might be neville, maybe, or it might be seamus; it could also be parvati, but the hair’s not long enough. she reaches out and tugs.
‘agh. lavender. no. stay awake.’
something loud and sinister reverberates through the walls of the castle. everything ceases. coldness runs down their spine as voldemort warns them, warns them to hand over harry potter, otherwise everyone will die.
maybe that’s for the best. maybe that’s what she should do.
die.
the pain, the agony, as the poison courses through her blood. she screams as something burns its way through her body. her vision explodes into darkness, and she barely acknowledges the cooling touches over her wounds.
something’s keeping her back. she doesn’t know what. but she knows she won’t see parvati for a while.
and she wonders. she wonders whether she’ll be the same again. whether she’ll still be. lavender brown.
title: imperfect, but perfect
genre: fluff
pairing(s): draco x asteria
word count: 100
rating: g
they’re not perfect, they never will be.
for one, he’s a broken man, brought down by the mistakes of his father and the downfall of the man they’d put their whole faith in. and for another, she isn't a pureblood, and that fact alone was what kept his father away, even though her parents were a perfectly respectable magical couple, and she was still a slytherin.
but she’s the best he’ll ever get.
even though they have to elope, and especially because she’s the first who’d looked at him without bitter eyes, the one who brought him back together again.
title: no-one knows (so let's just stay hidden)
genre: comfort ;; romance
pairing(s): ted x andromeda
word count: 340
rating: pg
andromeda knew him as the boy who sits quietly at the front of the class.
ted knew her as the nicer black sister.
they're worlds apart, but she can't resist sneaking down to the kitchens where she's welcomed by the house-elves and ted, and a steaming mug of tea, sitting, ready for her.
and they talk. at first about the ridiculously long essay that mcgonagall had assigned about transfiguring a rat into a hat, about who has a better chance of winning the next quidditch match (ted insists hufflepuff, and of course andromeda backs the slytherins).
and then their conversations turn to the dark lord and the muggle-borns.
ted doesn't care, but andromeda does.
she tells him so one evening when she manages to evade regulus' patrols outside the dungeons.
‘she’s joining.’
‘who?’
‘bella’s joining the dark lord. mama and papa are happy.’
‘you’re not.’
‘what do you mean, i'm not. i am.’
‘no, you’re not.’
‘i am. i have to be. otherwise they’ll know, bella suspects me already, and then they’ll kill you, or do whatever they want to do with the muggle-borns.’
he tries to laugh it off.
‘no, ted. they will kill you. that’s what it’s all about. getting rid of muggles and muggleborns, and anyone who’s not pureblooded. and idontwantyouttodie.’
she can sense the smirk on his face as her cheeks flush pink.
‘awww, andy, i didn’t think you cared. don’t worry, i won’t let them get to me. and i won’t let them get to you either.’
she knows, and he knows, that they will. eventually.
but it’s nice to be hidden from the outside world for a while, not letting anyone know about their little conversations at night, with their shared pieces of chocolate cake and steaming mugs of tea. because if they’re hidden away, if everyone can only hear the redheaded third year shouting at that potter boy, if they’re not written in the history books, maybe they will survive just a bit longer in this world that’s falling to pieces around them.
