First thought? A lot better than she responds to mental pain and anguish.
Physical pain comes from an infliction, and inflictions (unless they are internal in nature, ie from her own body, which then she's basically screwed) are things which she can fight against. Kitty's a fighter by nature. If someone tries to hurt her, she will strike back until the person has been subdued.
Kind of like Wolvie here with his thoughtless berzerker response, when in a situation where she's being attacked, she goes into a defensive mode, using any means that she finds at her disposal against the attacker which will not result in her opponent's death. She may have to be inventive to thwart the threat. She can be really scary when she's trying to bring someone down.
Kitty is so in-tune with her body, knows what she's capable of doing, that she strikes in perfect precision, using martial arts, brawler techniques, other hand-to-hand techniques she's acquired throughout the years, and her own mutant ability, which she has now tempered to the point of being able to disrupt a human being's electrical system, to conquer her foe. If her abilities are not enough, she may refrain from physical confrontation, and find a way to have a greater threat bring down her attacker. In the case of the N'Garai demon, Kitty couldn't even hurt it, so she lured it to the Blackbird hanger and let the burners kill the thing.
Whatever physical threat she must face, she meets it without fear and head on. It's only those things that are out of her control, such as unable to save someone, usually a love one, which cut so deep into her psyche.
